As Exhibit 5A to my testimony shows, I am providing a copy of a $35,000 check that President Trump personally signed from his personal bank account on August 1, 2017 -- when he was President of the United States -- pursuant to the cover-up, which was the basis of my guilty plea, to reimburse me -- the word used by Mr. Trump's TV lawyer -- for the illegal hush money I paid on his behalf. This $35,000 check was one of 11 check installments that was paid throughout the year -- while he was President. Other checks to reimburse me for the hush money payments were signed by Don Jr. and Allen Weisselberg. See, for example, Exhibit 5B.
If Trump repaid Cohen from Trump's personal funds, would that be an illegal campaign contribution?
The crazy thing in all of this is the paper trail. I guess the defense of Trump is going to be that the money was for something else. Going to be a very tough argument to make.
Yeah, it'll be hard for Trump folks to come up with another reason why Trump paid exactly $35K per month for exactly 6 months, with no similar payments right before or right after.
But I do seriously wonder if the fact that the payments came from Trump personally insulates him from the campaign finance felony we all assumed he committed. I don't think there's any limits to the amount Trump could donate to his own campaign. (There might be reporting violations, but that is not really criminal.)
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Yeah, I think personal or not, proving serious campaign finance law violation is going to be tough. It comes down to intentionality, and unless there's something out there that spells that out... Long shot.
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
Please tell me at least that one of the congressmen pulled out “They call them rats because a rat will do anything to survive, isn’t that right Mr. Cohen??”
So a GOP Congressman actual;y brought out a black woman who worked for Trump in order to dispute Cohen's claim that he is a racist...
I've all probably said that "nothing can surprise me anymore" 20 times over the past three years, but I was wrong again. It's like these idiots don't know or care what their official job is - it certainly isn't supposed to be running PR stunts for the President.
(Officially anyway)

Jim Jordan's face is getting more punchable by the second. The contempt for another human in order to appeal to his base is so fucking sad. He strikes me as a guy who talks a ton of shit and when you invite him to step outside he says "you put a finger on me and I'll call the cops and sue your ass".

Except I think Ways and Means is the only subcommittee that can subpoena tax returns. Though maybe that doesn’t apply in the case of House investigations.
But even though the two didn't agree on anything, Trump had this to say...
Trump said he spoke to Kim about the death of Warmbier — whose family has called it a murder — and that “he feels badly about it.” He said the North Korea leader, who holds an iron grip over the country, knew about the case, but he only learned about it after the fact, Trump suggested, because “top leadership” might not have been involved.
“He tells me he didn't know about it and I take him at his word,” Trump said.

As I understand it, any committee of the House with subpoena power can subpoena tax returns.
The Ways and Means committee has a separate power to request one from the Treasury Department without a subpoena.

Hopefully whatever the Saudis or Chinese have on him is pretty bad and it comes out. That’s the kind of stuff that might move the needle a little bit with voters.
On my SF86 I answered "yes" to the question of "Did you receive a reprimand at a previous assignment?"
I did. I got a reprimand for disobeying orders and not changing out lightbulbs when told.
That triggered a face to face interview from an investigator. I had to explain that. It was a waste of time. But had my interview morphed into me being pissed off at the guy that gave me a reprimand I would've been denied my clearance and probably force separated.
But this mother fucker...

Wasn't all of this known 2 years ago when Kushner had to resubmit dozens of times because he omitted all sorts of contacts with foreign agents and financial issues? Wasn't it public info 2 years ago that Trump had over 30 WH staffers that the FBI deemed unfit for security clearance, but the WH forced the clearances to go through? I don't understand all of these should-be scandals that resurface and suddenly people care again for 2 days. This keeps happening, where the media treats shit as new revelations, but they reported on the shit already!

So I think we can see how the White House will be leading the chorus of whiners in Congress and the right-wing media - "Republicans have been abused long enough."
It's almost funny.

this is a story advancement. yeah, everyone knew that Kushner was having trouble obtaining that security clearance, but it wasn't reported that Trump was the one that who got it for him and not after he finally jumped through hoops/divested/whatever. and they had been publicly denying that Trump was the one who got it for him.

Makes sense. I just took for granted that Trump pushed it through.

Just for the record, in case it isn't widely known, Jim Jordan denied knowing that OSU's wrestling doctor molested at least 3 wrestlers while he was an Asst. Coach. I believe the victims when they say Jordan is lying about his knowledge (or lack there of.)
Sanctimonious piece of shit.

Yeah, we didn't have a paper trail or true confirmation before, and as Bronto states they have been steadfastly denying ANY special treatment up until this story. Ivanka is on record with a flat out denial in an interview not that long ago.
LLPOF indeed.
