LA FC just stomped on DC this weekend. Plus Rooney with a Yellow turned Red via VAR (he knew he was toast as soon as they went to tape).

A big story was the quality of the pitch at NYCFC. Worth looking at the pictures.

MLS-tastic

Russell Canouse, DC United D-Mid and probably should be getting a sniff from the National Team based on his play over the last 2 years, got his real estate license. Tweets it to his ~3000 followers (hashtag #letcanousesellyourhouse.) Wayne Rooney retweets to his 17M followers.

Can't wait to see how this becomes a TIFO because it has been awhile since Troy Saves and Loans signs were at RFK (Troy Perkins won the starting job in goal but as a backup had a side job as a mortgage broker).

Minnesota's new stadium looks like it may be the new Columbus for the USMNT. Loud, cold, and white people out the ass.

I read something about the club selling t shirts to mark the event. But now I can't find any reference to it.

I can't understand how the USMNT can find a role for Jonathan Lewis but 3 win NYCFC can't.

Chicago have gotten out of their terrible lease in Bridgeview and are moving back to Soldier Field. Also considering a rebrand/name change.

I don't know if it's possible to recreate what LAFC is doing with an existing team, but you'll never know until you've tried.

More power to them. Chicago supported soccer back in the 1970s and early 80s - the Sting's indoor team outdrew the Bulls until the Bulls drafted Jordan. So hopefully they can catch the buzz again.

Well, just barely. Wife and I were laughing that the Rapids are so bad, they started, as my wife put it "two guys that have been with the team for a couple of days and a child". It's going to be a long, long season.

Tremendous job by Bill Hamid last night in Toronto. He is the best shot stopper in the MNT pool. Toronto completed >700 passes and had 70% of the possession. Hamid 12 saves in a 0-0 game.

Don't look now, but the Rapids are on a winning streak. The game Saturday night was legit fun, instead of Bad-News-Bears-style fun.

Ouch, missed this one over the weekend.

Rapids won again, not a great crowd size Saturday but best atmosphere of the season. Then Sunday was Meet the Team Day for season ticket holders. The kids had fun getting autographs from most of the players they wanted. The way it was set up, it was impossible to get everyone. They split signings up into two sessions and Tim Howard was the only one to sign during both. Nice of him to do that in his last year.

SI/Grant Wahl ranks every MLS team in terms of ambition every year. Tells you about the club in a way that most sports don't have because of the academy models.

Bleacher Report just posted that Wayne Rooney in talks to become player-coach at Derby (under Cocu). Guess they picked up on some reporting from the Telegraph. There has been lots of talk that Rooney won't reup with DC as the Mrs is not happy in the district. DC has cooled off (got ass kicked last night by Philly) and the team that is in the playoffs could be very different as Acosta has offers (and would be free to go at end of season) and Arriola could be going to Europe or back to Mexico.

Inbound, DC going to make a decision on Ola Kamara (Norway) this week. Has shown interest in Elba Rashani (Odd Bk of Norway, Kosovo), and Jose Torres (former USMNT) has been training with the team.

New owners join the Sounders ownership group:

Russell Wilson, Ciara, Macklemore, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and more join Sounders ownership
The Sounders announced 11 families have become owners, forming the Seattle Futbol Club LLC that partially bought out Hollywood producer Joe Roth’s stake in the team. The latter was a founding father in 2009 with Adrian Hanauer, Paul Allen and Drew Carey, operating primarily from California.

Once Roth announced he was stepping aside, Hanauer increased his majority stake in the club while Carey bumped up his investment with Jody Allen and the new owners entered at various levels as minority owners to round out the group.

Recognizable names such as Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, Grammy Award-winning singer and actor Ciara, join hip-hop star Macklemore and his wife, Tricia Davis, as new investors.
It sounds like a California based private equity firm was looking to buy the team, but the local people stepped in.

Dynamo can Cabrera the same week that Run DMB says he is hanging them up because he does not want to be on a bad team (not because he does not think he can keep playing).

The Petke episode was bonkers. If you watch the tape, he just agros at the ref for like a full 3 minutes after he gets the card.

But the real kicker is that he goes into the tunnel and makes a fucking SIGN so that he can display the slur when the ref enters.

What the actual fuck is that? And there's no one in the locker room that can get him to calm down at that point? That's bizarre.

So St. Louie gets an MLS team. Good on them. Hope they pick up the name of the big youth club ("St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer Club"). I know this was a merger of 3 youth clubs and Scott Gallagher is because the Scott-Gallagher, Inc. (sheet metal company) funded the club...but it is just a funny name as it sounds like something Michael Scott would have done.
