Grip and wrist action. I’m guessing that’s a two seam that he gets insane action on. Much safer pitch too.

(A screwball you’re forcing to spin by rolling your hand outward, the opposite of the pull-the-shades-down on a curve. It’s harsh.)

They do call it a two seamer. Also, pretty sure the screwball is not the danger people thought it was and actually protects the UCL better than "traditional" motions. I think it was Passan's The Arm that debunked that, or at least informed me of the debunkment.

I’m not sure how Passan can debunk given that the screwballs two most prominent throwers have died.

Check how Hubbell died, too. 50/50 chance at a joke setup far better than Earnhardt.

That was an all-time ump show. Worst I've seen the Astros be a part of, that's for sure.

Here is, if the link works, every 2-strike 2-out 9th inning swinging strike on a fastball with the go-ahead run on base in the last 3 years and you can click on each result and watch video if it exists (and every pitch from 2018-19 does).

Holy fucking shit. The moon. My god. (Long pause) We're on the fucking moon. Over.

Is Kulpa the crew chief? Because the thing that would probably drive him the most crazy is if the manager completely ignored him and just argued with the crew chief or another on the crew just denying him from having an umpshow. My first memory of Kulpa was when I argued that he provoked Carl Everett.

They are something like 1 for 67 in the first 3 innings.

Why is Chris Davis still a thing? Ofer in his last 38 dating back to last year.

It's like an excessively cruel update on the Milgram experiment - with the Orioles being told they have to keep pushing the button, so they do, no matter how much he screams in pain.

He should've shut it down at the end of last season if he couldn't commit to another year. Now we've got a vacuum as a result.

ETA: especially when he's citing "the passion just isn't there anymore." He knew it wasn't there last year when he (admittedly) was dragging.

Selfish stuff, IMO.

Yes, but that's irrelevant to my point. I'm simply stating that by bailing on his blog now, he's leaving a void that would've been easier to fill had he left at the end of last season.

Been a while since I spent a lot of time at RAB, but for a time it had the status of “only website I’ll visit when the Yankees are knocked out of the playoffs”, which is really a sacred status. I have to imagine it’s exhausting to cover a baseball team day in and day out, especially if you consider it important to cover the entire farm system, analytics & the business of baseball too. I wonder if they sought out a new editor and none of those fucking lazy millennials would bite.

I think there's likely some truth in what you're pondering. They opened up a few positions the past year and a half and were accepting applications (for what, I don't remember). That wound up morphing into guest contributions, but I think the jobs he was soliciting were of a more permanent nature.

He's working at CBS Sports Online - I'm sure he's burned out doing RAB because he's got to churn out a few thousand words a week on the job anyway..

The rays are a good team.

That’s not gonna be hard to make up because...it’s April. And somehow Boston has not played one home game yet.

11 game west coast road trip is a real fan friendly way to start the season (having the team be historically bad for a returning World Series Champion doesn't help either).

Probably - although the twins and tigers and Cleveland etc etc didn’t get banished to that kind of road trip. Like I said, it was unusual.
