I give zero, maybe .5, fucks about baeball and the Rays these days, but the Jeff Passan piece on Wander Franco just gave me full maple.

I would prefer it, but only if it were universal.

I don’t know if the proper take is “Scherzer should be bunting like he gives half a shit” or “Scherzer shouldn’t be bunting since he clearly doesn’t give half a shit”, but whatever it was he was doing before deflecting the ball into his face had zero value.

Maybe it is, "if you stand in a major league batter's box, you better be completely focused."

They have their own lockers which include plugs for electrical devices, while food is also served in there and inactive players can be found milling about during down periods.

So, what about this Manny Machado vs. the umpires thing? I can kind of see it both ways. Machado is a known prick with a tendency to overreact. But, the umpires' association's tweet and facebook post on the subject also seem like an overreaction.

The umps are absolutely overreacting. But that's what they do.

The only thing I have a problem with regarding Machado is throwing the bat like he did. The umps are being babies, however.

8-game lead and 1.5 games away from best record in MLB. Altuve, Springer, and Correa coming back very soon (like today in one case!) or within a month. I'm very OK.

Yeah, has to feel nice after the hard luck year you've had. The best part of the series was watching an Astros reporter trying Skyline for the first time.

That's either gonna be brilliant or horrible, most likely the latter. Just freaking move them to an area that would support them year-round (like maybe Montreal perhaps).

I of course am not going to read the full article, but the tweet suggests that this would basically be Montreal with an extended spring training home for a month or so.

A couple of recent well-attended exhibition games seems to have spurred a round of revisionist history about the city of Montreal's baseball passion. There are certainly rabid fans there and they worked hard as a franchise to cultivate french speakers while they had a team, but as a whole the city was indifferent. According to baseball-reference, they were never higher than 8th in attendance in the National League after 1982. Some of that was due to ownership, some due to the stadium, but the fans didn't show. April/May was hurt by however far Les Canadiens would go and September tended to be hurt by the team out of the chase. Montreal is a great city with tons to do and truth be told outside of the NHL have never sustained great support for any major franchise (before anyone brings up the Impact, they did sell out their 20,000 seat stadium in 2017, 18,400 ave in 2018, and a little over 15k this year...the trend continues). MLB owners should think long and hard before returning to Montreal on some romantic (Quixotic?) mission.

Let's not get cocky. Y'all could be 11 back when July rolls around. (And still with the 3rd-best RD and 3rd Order Win Pct in the National League.)

With sports betting spreading nationwide and the likely income that gaming is adding and will add to the coffers of the major sports leagues as a result, I'd be pretty surprised if Las Vegas isn't the next city to get a team, whether by a franchise moving or expansion. All of the sports leagues are going to want to plant a flag here (and there will be some interesting fallout if and when it happens since this market isn't big enough to support four teams, even when you factor in support from opposing fans).

(This is based on reportage less than my personal feelings, but it makes sense, but once MLB has the situations in Oakland and Tampa stabilized I think MLB is going to expand to 32. I believe MLB would like to get new stadiums in Tampa and Oakland and then expand to Las Vegas and probably Montreal, but Charlotte and Nashville are in play as well especially if one or both of Oakland and Tampa end up moving somewhere.)
