Honestly I thought about it but only because I figured at that insane a price there might be value. But didn’t pull the trigger.

If it was anyone other than Verlander starting for Houston I might have done it. Hard to bet against that guy. For me.

He was on the mound when the Orioles won that game where they were +420.

For shits and grins one of the attorneys I work with parlayed that one with one other whenever day that was a few weeks back and ended up with a $3600 payout on a $100 or so dollar bet, apparently.

Tigers are almost as big of an underdog for today's game as well (+440 at South Point).

There is no LLwS thread but this dude for Louisiana that is 13-19 this tournament and hit a grand slam has a sweet swing. Obviously hard to project twelve year olds but man he is so on plane all the time.

ETA: Roussel or something similar.

Did it not occur to anybody at MLB to test how this weekend's white uniforms would look on TV at least at night? From a distance they are unreadable which defeats the purpose. Also they have a strange gray/pinkish hue due to lights. I can't imagine they will be much better in the daytime.

It’s a good idea executed poorly which is MLB in microcosm.

The white ones look like a blank coloring book someone forgot to draw in, and the black ones look like someone dressing up as a thief late at night.

It also varies game to game whether the home team is wearing white which is frustrating watching multiple games.

Revenue sharing alone was estimated at >$200MM in 2018.

Yeah, but... you're a finance guy. You know that revenue does not necessarily equal equity value.

Depends upon how they are applying the multiple in their model. Top line or bottom.

Finite # of teams.

Slightly dated article but avg team value was $1.645b. I wouldn’t buy a team in KC but someone will. And they’ll pay a billion or more.

I imagine there are very few investments where you’re all but promised 2x your purchase price over a decade even if you do everything else you can to fail. Just a continuation of why no big 3 will ever show their books.

How about ten-fold over two decades?

But let’s be honest, this thing isn’t worth $10b in 20 years.

Why again does the Big Hurt get excluded from most steroid discussion? That's the exact same body type as Bonds had, basically.

Thomas got a football scholarship to Auburn* and was huge for his entire career. Bonds was skinny for years before he put on like 50 pounds of muscle.

*Of course, the fact that Thomas was part of an SEC football program certainly helps AB’s point.

I get that he's naturally a bigger guy, but by the end he sure looked bigger in the same ways bonds looked bigger.

Thomas was always a hulking figure though. Bonds looked wiry when he was the game's best OF in Pittsburgh. Then he had his "hold my beer" moment when he was forced to pay attention to Sosa and McGwire's great 1998 PED-infused HR race.

Maybe Thomas was using PEDs then and was just smart enough to stay out of the Mitchell Report or do business with the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative. But he was always a massive guy.

Did you watch the video? He's tall, but I wouldn't say hulking by any stretch.

Maybe I worded it incorrectly. Thomas was built ready for the additional muscle that would make him into the Big Hurt. You can see it in his chest and shoulders in that video.

Bonds had a much smaller frame. His chest and shoulders looked closer to that of well, a fleet-footed outfielder than a linebacker.

And his parents are alleging it was an Angels employee that was supplying him the drugs.

Oh, and the Coroner called the drug overdose “accidental”.

Glad he cleared that up for us.

I agree with that. I remember when Billy Martin's widow went after his drinking buddy for all he was worth when Martin died in their drunken crash. Martin was an inveterate alcoholic and certainly wasn't forced to join his friend in the truck.
