If a team trainer were handing out fentanyl that would be a huge scandal. That stuff is extremely dangerous. Sheer speculation on my part but I’d bet he (or someone else) bought oxycodone off the street and it was laced with fentanyl which then contributed to the accidental OD.

Right, and that’s the situation where “if Tyler were the buyer it’s his fault but if _______ were the buyer we’re going after him to save Tyler’s rep”, it’s shit.

The Yankees throwing games against Oakland has been the very best part of this season!

Agreed. While I feel bad for Skaggs’ family, using opioids bought off the street, for any reason, is a very high-risk activity. The explosion in OD deaths this decade has been driven by situations like this, particularly when fentanyl is in the mix. According to the CDC, fentanyl has been killing as many Americans as heroin and cocaine combined in recent years.

I wonder if he lost a few first ballot votes over that dust up with the writer.

Imagine how crazy the idea of Boston firing a GM who helped win them a title only two years previously would have been 20 years ago.

Need to unload Betts, Devers, Bogaerts while there is still some value there

I do think this has something to do with Betts, either making a change you think appeals to him or getting rid of the guy you don’t trust to trade him. Dombrowski’s thing is having the stomach to trade everything for the right star, not vice versa.

Ownership needs to sign off on trades though, right?

I'm sure, in theory, but if John Henry is going to trust someone else's opinion on A-ball prospects, that someone else should be the GM, right? I think the backwards block, the on the ropes GM needing to clear a buy trade, would be more standard for ownership to sign off.

10 position players were used by each team in the Yankees vs. Tigers game today. The highest SLG on the Tigers ranked 11th.

Yaz hitting a home run in Fenway is so cool. Just hearing his name during games gives me flashbacks to the good old days watching games with my brother and dad.

I was at the game before he got his 3000th hit.

Who'd they play? The Twins? Angels?

3000 hits to the tune of a 5.0 batting average!

Well that explains why we haven't seen it because it turns out they are having a bad year and the Yankees can clinch the division tonight.

Isn't the obvious answer to all these home runs that almost no one seems to point out is that players these days, especially the younger ones, just benefit from modern nutrition and weight training more than players even 10 or 20 years ago?

It's a lot easier for players to be lean, but strong and generate the bat speed necessary regardless of their position. Hitting home runs is essentially just a physics problem and we've figured out the solution.
