What was the defender trying to do? Couldnt have been trying to score that. Keeper wasnt really out of goal and wasnt anyone close other than the goalie.

Today's sport center top 10 had a beautiful 60 yard free kick from a certain school in VA.

It came in the 60th minute (1:27 into the stream below)

Yeah, how did the goalie miss that? Looked like it was right at her at a fairly easy height to save. It sounded like there was a lot of wind, so I'm guessing she horribly misjudged it, but it didn't look difficult from that angle. I'd also guess the scorer wasn't intending that as a shot, unless she saw the goalie way off her line .

Having coached a good deal of women's soccer, I've seen plenty of goals like that... But not expecting to see it at the college level. Hell, we've all seen guys/men scored on like that, but it's usually when they are WAAAAY off their line and it's shot from the middle of the park or beyond.

On a set piece from 45 yards out? C'mon.

Holy shit find a video of Rubio’s goal for RSL tonight.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Was? Still is. MASL streams games on twitch (https://www.maslsoccer.com/masl-on-twitch). You can also go down a deep youtube hole as lots of classic games (80s) are posted.

That is absolutely filthy. (The lead-up was pretty dope, too. That pass off the wall was nice.)

Based on my 1 evening of experience, nonlinear makes that save at the Rockville Sportsplex and picks up some infection from the dirty old turf.

Nonlinear would have been all over that Dmitry Payet goal, too.

The only way any goalie in the world is saving either shot is if they basically guessed and started moving before the ball is off their respective feet.

(I know you're just kidding/taking the piss, but those two shots are virtually unstoppable by a mere mortal.)

You see a lot more goalies using that style because the torque you get is incredible and it helps keep the ball on a more level plane. The huge issue with "keep your knee over the ball" on volleys is that the margin for error is incredibly thin. There's a reason probably 75 percent of volleys in the run of play (not on the training ground) are skied to some extent.
