Yeah, I can't recall ever seeing a shot like that. Incredible.

I'm actually surprised more players don't try that. I've had guys do that to me in training a dozen times. Not trying to be a hipster or whatever, but it's not actually all that difficult to scoop a ball like that. It's almost more like players lack the imagination to do it in a game.

Kind of like the PKs where a guy just dinks it after a big run up.. You never used to see that, now it's fairly common. Ballsy move, but I don't know that I've ever seen it NOT work. Not saying it doesn't fail from time to time, but it's a pretty high percentage play.

Messi Panenka'd a fucking free kick.

In the Catalan derby, no less. And Ray Hudson on the call.

Didn't Meola stop a PK by guessing down the middle to help the US get to the world cup back in the day?

surprised to not see any discussion on Copa America. guess you're too busy watching Women's or U20.
did you catch this one? the pass alone... the shot...
maybe i'm biased. maybe not.

Been watching a bit since the game times are pretty good for "flipping around channels to see what is on before giving up and going to bed". I liked Cavani's scissor kick-ish goal on Father's Day even if Ecuador probably shouldn't have ever let him just sit there like that.

And yeah, you're probably biased.

There's also the Gold Cup. Honestly, it's just difficult to keep track of all of it. I watched the end of Japan-Uruguay last night but couldn't quite figure out the stakes. Looked like Japan thought it could go on to the next round with 2 points?

For me, it's been WWC, Gold Cup, Copa America, then the underage tourneys, in that order, as far as personal desire to watch.

That falls far behind the Neptune (NJ) Summer Kickoff Classic, girls U10 division. Big games this weekend, come on Union County FC Summer Select!

US Open cup only matters when there is an amateur or low level team making a run (Christos, etc.), opportunity to learn about some crazy team (villages), or your MLS team is playing (and even then hard to care too much..but F' NYCFC).

I have such a negative feeling for South American and Mexican soccer on TV. Not sure why. Very good players and a competitive tournament. Some of it is Mexican team uniforms often look like NASCARs and the camera work makes MLS look like EPL (besides never understanding their season model---apateura/clausera nonsense). But also the negative soccer just drives me bonkers (but I don't watch too much so that could just be a bad perception).

I gave up youth stuff when the US gets knocked out, find my self not really caring too much about the WWC, and waiting for the minows to fall out of the gold cup (but did enjoy Bermuda playing last night....warm feeling for Bermuda as I saw a WC qualifier there in the 80s against Canada).

The goalie dive at the end makes that even better than it would otherwise be.

So a co-worker was at the game. He said the live view made it more dramatic/impressive. The close view in the highlights takes a bit away from the skill and beauty of the goal.

On the other hand..I find it hard to believe a goalie should ever get beat like that. Maybe nonlinear has a different take but even a sweeper-keeper should be able to get to the goal line or he is just not paying attention. Exception made for René Higuita or Campos who played the striker-keeper position.

Spurs shredded Burnley yesterday - not an exaggeration to say that they could have scored 8 goals.

The 1st and 4th goal are Harry Kane specials and are great, 2nd goal is a mess and 5th goal is quality.

But you've got to see Son's goal (the 3rd one).

Is there a Connor McThomas? Connor McJames? Connor McJohn?

That's the senior Dortmund team? I had no idea we had another young American playing for them, much less that he is Claudio Reyna's son.

And that was a hell of a goal.

He signed with them this summer (I think), and just got called in to the first team. Not a bad start to his European career.
