Pretty sure apoquel is the first dog med I've seen TV commercials for.

He was on that most of last summer when he had something going on with his skin*, then went off when he had the surgery to remove the tumor-y undescended testicle in September. When the itchiness started up anew earlier this year we asked about apoquel again and the vet recommended against it with his history because it has a warning for pre-existing cancers.

*he had a couple of issues - a general itchiness and crustiness on the undercarriage and sides, and then some smelly, stickiness on his neck. The belly got better but the neck thing stuck around even after the surgery. After being told a bunch of different things by the vet but never getting it addressed I bought some OTC hydrocortisone (Zymox) and it cleared up! And once they told me no apoquel I bought a spray version of the same stuff to go with the ointment and he's done pretty well.

That's good to hear. We went looking for alternatives, but the 6 week shot method was more expensive, and the time we visited some Druid vet, the homeopathic solution involved a whole lot of effort that seemed to make little sense.

Cytopoint? He was getting those last year, too. Poor dude. Stopped that when it was clear the hydrocortisone was helping.

Sounds familiar. The interval was dependent upon his reaction, which sounded like a lot of upkeep, whereas the pill just takes care of it (I understand the roll of the dice)...

Actually, we're about to drop him off for an overnight stay at the vet's boarding facility so that we can go see a Talking Heads cover band this evening.

I hope they're called the Talking Hats.

Nah. They took the lazy way out and are called Psycho Killers.

They're a really talented group of musicians though. 3 of them are in a Phish cover band (Foam), and they had freakin Thomas Dolby (who is now a professor at Johns Hopkins) open for them one night.

Lots of fiber in pumpkin, which can be an issue when he’s already got diarrhea. We go with the boiled chicken and rice in that circumstance.

We saw a Tom Petty cover band awhile back called Petty Theft. I thought that was a good name for them.

He came into the record store where I worked once. Nice as could be. His album, Aliens Ate My Buick is great.

but..
he has gained weight... isn't dehydrated.. and diarrea stopped around7p last night -- all his bms since then are normal... so just the vomiting is the only sympton.

his medicine took effect.. so we just fed him a small meal as per the vet . not allowed any treats or chewsticks today or tomorrow.
all good. 24hr bug or something. just as happy as before. growing like a weed. he has now discovered he likes to bit shoes.

Meet Pauly. Rescued him today from one of the really good organizations in the area. Part Chihuahua and probably some Jack Russell.

Not sure if Pauly got the name for Pauly Shore, Pauly from the Jersey Shore, or Pauly from Rocky. ...but me..I am thinking Pauly Walnuts

The series of shorts Dug Days on Disney Plus is one of the best things I've seen in a while.

Just watched the first two episodes. Recognized Ed Asner’s voice right away.

The squirrel attempting suicide was funny!

We’re fostering a couple of lab puppies for a couple of weeks until they can be flown to their new forever home in Canada. I forgot how much work puppies are. I really don’t understand how anyone can raise anything.

(The ASPCA shelter here was destroyed by Hurricane Nora.)

We just gave back round 3 of kittens we've fostered. 4 of them this time, which was way too many, but I'm half totes to go back to the humane society and adopt two of them.

Speaking of fostering, I think this most recent pair of kittens are going to stay. Picked them up a week ago Sunday. Two brothers, only a week old at the time, and had to be bottle fed. I think my wife started them on solid wet food today. Not sure if they've tried it yet. Pretty sure we'll keep the names the Humane Society gave them as well, Bill and Ted.
