Man, that was one of the worst things I've ever seen in sports. Hearing that Eriksen is awake and speaking in the hospital is amazing news. I did NOT expect them to continue that game, but I guess once the news of Erikson's status got back to the players, they all probably wanted to get back out there.

I don't recall ever seeing a player get chest compressions like that, certainly not for that long. It looked like he got the paddles too. I thought for sure he was dead.

That was all insane. Was in line to get food and went to check Twitter for the score and the feed was just “oh my god” and “they need to stop showing this live” before I could find out what had happened. Echo earlier that it certainly had the feel of an inevitably tragic ending.

I can't believe they restarted the game.

And the players, especially the Danish, did not look at all ready to be back out there.

Heard commentary (from a guy on Fox that played for Sheffield Wed) that from his experience, postponing to tomorrow would've been even harder on the players... They would just have dwelled on it, talked to other players, families/friends reaching out, etc. etc.

I haven't actually seen the footage, but anything more than 15-20 seconds of chest compressions is truly agonizing to watch. Probably felt like 5-6 minutes in real time.

If you assume that the players wanted to continue in the tournament rather than drop out altogether--and that sounds likely to me, based on everything I know about pro athletes--then I don't blame them for thinking that this was the best option. I mean, there are no good options for restarting after something like that, so just take the best bad option.

Luckily, I was watching the games after the fact, and knew that Eriksen was awake and stable in the hospital before I saw what happened.

Those sure were 4 pretty poor games. Wales-Switzerland was Championship-level soccer.

I liked the Italy and Belgium performances. Did what they had to do and Italy was content to maintain possession as is their wont but they still got forward with intent too.

And Belgium looked really good. I loved the fact that Lukaku scored twice and Boyata was an absolute rock on the back line after the Russians refused to take a knee to start the game.

Local hometown hero at Leeds. Amazing seeing him in the selection, really.

(You gotta watch the special on Prime... Turned me into a very low key Leeds fan... They play a balls out/offensive style that is fun to watch, even if you're a neutral.)

This, he was just fantastic playing higher up the pitch (although he broke up more stuff than anyone else when playing without the ball).

Also, England have just so many options going forward with Foden, Sterling, Rashford, Kane, Grelish and the big Everton lad etc... Sancho didn't even make the 23 match day squad today!
