I voted throw away but with a caveat that it depends on the definition of sliver. Once my soap gets to like 40% thickness, I get a new one for the washcloth and use the old one as face soap. By 10%, which I assume is the sliver definition, the old-new one is down to 40% and I'm not about to keep 3 bars going at once.

I usually have a bar of soap and some liquid bodywash in the shower at all times. Just depends on how I'm feeling. Sometimes you gotta loofah, boys.

I'm in a weird place with this one. I will use a bar of soap in a hotel, but at home it's 100 percent body wash/shampoo.
In terms of a sliver of soap, I don't ever deal with that anymore.

I went through a body wash phase but I never felt really clean. And hotel soap is impossible to get off your body, you have a perpetual greasy feeling.

Caveat: If I do a bunch of yard work or otherwise feel really grimy, I'll use the bar of soap in my wife's shower*. Otherwise, I prefer body wash because it doesn't feel like it clings so much to everything.
* - With the kids gone, I might move back up to her shower. As it stands, I use the one downstairs because I listen to podcasts while I shower and shave and it's loud and the kids complain because they're soft. **

Yep, this is why I can't use it. I need to press something firm against my skin (heh) to feel properly scrubbed.
I guess I underestimated the size of the liquid soap contingent though. Sorry if I soap-shamed anyone with the douchebag comment. I always associated liquid soap with the type of guys who get all their hygiene products from Axe and wear silk shirts a size too small. Or is that you?

When I started going to the gym regularly carrying bar soap with me just wasn't very practical.

I'm not a fan of liquid soap myself for mostly the reasons stated here. I admit being a little surprised the liquid soap contingent is so strong. Maybe because I associate it (probably wrongly) as "feminine".

Wait. Is using liquid soap at bathroom sinks for washing up creepy? I would think standard. Bar soap for showers, liquid soap at sink.

Oh, I tried. I was brought up in a bar household, and harbored the same short-sighted opinions about liquid soap users as carwash. But getting both the soap and the container dry enough that I wasn't hemorrhaging soap proved to be too difficult for me to put enough effort into accomplishing.

I used bar soap right up until my literal first night in basic training. Bar soap is not allowed.
After that I never went back and have used liquid soap with a scrunchy loofah thing since.
Plus, they make all in one soaps these days. So it's also my shampoo.

Yeah, it's just more convenient now.
Recent anecdote: I attended a football viewing on Saturday, attended by couples. While making the greeting/hug circuit with the ladies, 3 of them told me how nice I smelled.
So, now I gargle with that shit, too.*
* - not really. but that's also not the first time that's happened, where I shower and soon thereafter show up at a happy hour or something and receive a "you smell nice" compliment.

I don't like the shampoo/bodywash ones.
(But I have also used that ocean stuff on my body and it does indeed smell great)

I prefer a bar of soap to liquid stuff. Lots easier to use. I also like to meld it to the next bar, although I have to get at it before my wife throws the sliver away.
