Trump talking about 409k's makes me think there is probably some secret financial device for rich people.

Probably explains the contrite response to the US attack. Shooting down a commercial flight would only bolster int'l support against them.

“I actually had a name. NATO, right? And then you have M-E. Middle East. You’d call it NATOME,” he said. “I said, ‘What a beautiful name.’ NATOME. I’m good at names, right? USMCA. Like the song YMCA. Nobody could remember USMCA. I said, ‘think of the song YMCA.’ Now everybody says it.”

“I can reveal that I believe it probably would’ve been four embassies,” Trump said.
It'll be twenty embassies by the time he stops talking about it.

The documents released by the House from Lev Parnas are pretty fuckin' wild.

Here's a start.

I'm guessing the timing and release of these docs is no accident. Designed to put maximum pressure on the Senate to call Parnas, Bolton and others to testify.

What are the chances McConnell is done with him and wants to take his chances with pence.

I think if the GOP turned on Trump, or I should say stopped protecting him, they would deeply damage the party by basically admitting they were covering for a POS the entire time, so they are stuck doubling, tripling and billioning down on backing him no matter how bad his shit gets.

Even if Trump admitted under oath he held the aid up to force the Biden investigation the GOP still wouldn’t remove. He could admit he ordered the Code Red on Santiago. They don’t care.

I dunno. I think Mitch McConnel cares more about his seat than Trump. I can absolutely see him dumping him if it's too toxic and risks the seats of him and others up for election.

I don't run in particularly liberal circles and it seems to me that pretty much no one like McConnell in this state. It may be a Bevin like situation.

We’re still a long, long way from that scenario. GOP voters still love Trump:

I guess I'm putting too much stock in the "President is stalking an ambassador" storyline.

I would also add that the level of GOP animus towards the Obama Administration (including Biden) is really, really high. It doesn’t matter that Obama bent over backwards to try and find common ground with Republicans — they still absolutely despise the guy. So they’re not going to care about Trump’s misconduct when it was done for the purposes of going after people they abhor. Independent voters are hopefully a different story but I just can’t see the GOP abandoning Trump when his intraparty approval is still so high.

You're just applying your morality to an immoral cult. It's not fun to be so disillusioned that literally almost no amount of immorality is enough for these people to realize how truly horrible he is.

Honestly and maybe ironically, about the only thing that would sink Trump is if he somehow came out as pro-life (which he probably really is).

The only honest thing that Trump has ever said is the 'I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot somebody and I wouldn’t lose voters' line.

After openly admitting (bragging? promising?) that he was taking orders from the White House and working with WH Counsel to make sure they are in lock-step with Trump for the impeachment trial, how can he decide Trump is too toxic to back? How does he admit he was wrong for 3 years in bowing to the will of Trump, only to say Trump has gone too far? He can't. Not to mention, the only people who support McConnell at this point are pure Trump supporters, so he would lose all of his supporters if he dumped Trump, as I would bet more than 90% of McConnell supporters more enthusiastically support Trump than Mitch.

I knew one of the authors of that book, Phil Rucker, a bit in college. (He roomed with some guys I was pretty good friends with.) At least back then he was very non-confrontational and was not a far lefty or political firebrand by any means. So if he’s writing that kind of stuff about Trump it’s probably fair to assume that Trump’s level of incompetence is truly astounding.
