There aren't many "fat slobs" in the NBA, but there also seem to be some dudes who you wouldn't want to fuck around with beyond their large elite athlete status. I've always thought the Morris twins were at that level.

I'd agree with that, for sure.

There’s no reason he shouldn’t be a useful player. Decent size can shoot plays hard. Just happens to be a prick!

He's misunderstood!

Man, two coast to coast dunks, some three point chops against two non-NBA teams, and a few blocks and I am good to go on "what's past is past". At age 48, I am glad to finally accept this about myself.

Allen has good size and athleticism for an NBA 2-guard. He just needs to get his 3-point percentage up to like 37-38%. Also, I wish Ben Wallace and Metta World Peace we’re still in the league so that he would get absolutely annihilated in retaliation for his dirty play.

Unrelated, I don't recall this many pre-season games being nationally televised in past years - but perhaps I wasn't paying close attention. It feels like, as we previously touched upon in this thread, that interest is up generally with the sense that the title chase is more open than normal and so many interesting young teams around beyond the playoff contenders. It's fascinating.

The Pelicans are gonna be such a great watch on League Pass...

Good thought. I understand China has special schools where they can re-educate people, maybe Morey should consider enrolling.

If Donald Trump were sentient, he'd see the opportunity to take a pretty warranted shot at China (you know, the people he's in a trade war with) and pick a fight with the country's second most influential black man in one movement.

Not saying this is the entire or largest basis of the criticism by any means, but I do think that a significant number of people acting indignant over this are just looking to expose as hypocrites players and coaches who have been vocally anti-Trump and pro-Civil Rights in America. That way they have a counterpoint whenever LeBron or Curry or Kerr next criticizes Trump. Let’s just say the “stick to sports” crowd sure doesn’t seem to be sticking to sports on this one.

Yeah, anyone who thinks that teams should get rid of players who kneel for the anthem because they’re “bad for business” should have no issues whatsoever with LeBron’s comments.

It feels disappointing because I thought LeBron was, at a minimum, smart and decent enough to give a no-comment on a non-domestic issue I'm guessing he too maybe be "misinformed and not (fully) educated" on.

His point is relevant to the few dozen players and team officials who were in China.

IMO, this is a Nike issue more than a China issue (roundabout of course it's both). The NBA has mishandled this in just about every way possible.

Well yeah, they have this counterpoint because it was served to them on a silver fucking platter.

Steve Kerr all of the sudden not wanting to talk politics is especially cowardly. LeBron didn't have to say jack.

I would love to see the Venn Diagram of Masshole Barstool fans who buy that shirt and who thought it was totally unfair for the media to ask Brady about his Trump hat or Belichick about the letter Trump read.

There is nothing left to say. It's like complaining about oxygen.

You have TAIWANESE-American Jeremy Lin, the hero to all Asian-Americans, has been doing business in China. Advertising, reality shows and just signed with the team in Beijing. Just cashing in while Hong Kong burns and maybe Taiwan is next. This guy is disgusting.

If a guy like that, not only doesnt care but also directly cashes in, then there can't be criticism for Lebron.

I think a lot of the reaction has missed that NBA owners and commissioners bear far more responsibility for tying so much of the sport's revenue to China than players and coaches do for keeping quiet. LeBron himself has more money than he'll ever need, but he's also a high profile representative of a player's union whose members collectively could lose hundreds of millions in future earnings if China cut the cord entirely. Similarly, Steve Kerr coaches multiple players who currently have shoe deals with Chinese companies. Klay Thompson's deal with Anta is reportedly worth up to $80 million. Maybe Kerr should have just spoken up anyways, but he could have cost some of his guys a significant amount of money had he done so.
