I would start by punishing the fans.

The asterisk next to their lone title takes care of that.

It would seem setting an example for future bad actors would be a wise move...The team should forfeit draft picks [trombone sound], but perhaps suspending the position players from the 2017 roster for a significant amount of games and voiding their postseason shares would show that MLB isn’t just sorta serious about this stuff.*
Because the team set up the infrastructure, not the players. And because any by player enforcement would almost assuredly be incomplete or selective.

Yeah, short of catching George Springer counting the number of bangs on the garbage can on his hand I think it would be hard to pin things on the players. But of course, lying by omission is still lying.

So what? They had some players elect to use it and others who didn’t like it.

From the Athletic article:
One Astros source was adamant: The team should not become the poster child for sign stealing. Not when so much is going on with other clubs that MLB has not stopped, they said.
This is precisely why the players involved need to be suspended, and coaches or team officials involved be run from the sport: in order to set a precedent.

I agree that no players will get suspended. Maybe Hinch, But the consequences will likely be money and draft picks. The Astros will probably point to the 2018 ALCS and 2019 WS as evidence it stopped after 2017, even though the Sox and Nats were both doing some serious counterespionage efforts. (Strasburg starting to wiggle his hand after the first inning of Game 6 to mask his grip changes likely saved the series for the Nats.)

Probably would have taken him another seven seasons to get to 3,000 without the help.

For the record, I put that one in the off-season thread earlier today, because I am pretty sure this will be a relevant topic for awhile...

I can't believe we lost to the fucking cheaters in 2018. Not surprised we still beat yet other cheaters in our two most recent runs to the World Series though.

BANG BANG BANG, indeed.

I always did think this all started with the Yankees. Really banging my head that I didn't see that connection before now.

Its like that time when the Patriots got caught filming sideline calls then the Texans decided to do the same but also broadcast the playcall over the loudspeakers to their defense.

Trust me, watching your daughter cheer for a World Series team is amazing. I'm sure a Super Bowl would be just as great.
