Ten percent drop in the DJIA today. The index hasn't been this low since June 8, 2017.
The S&P is also basically where it was in the summer of 2017.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: Not so funny real life Capt Trips thread
Dow finished down exactly 9.99 percent. Flip that around and it's 666.

My office closing tomorrow (just announced). Likely to extend much longer if I had to guess. It's like the fall of Saigon in here (only, you know, different) as people frantically try and move files to One Drive to work remotely and cancel depos and appointments etc.

Re: Not so funny real life Capt Trips thread
We just decided to basically close for our employees. We'll have one secretary staff the office on a rotating basis, with the others working from home unless they're needed here for something specific. We can all remotely access our firm's server, so we don't need to worry about moving files to the cloud.tennbengal wrote: ↑Thu Mar 12, 2020 3:55 pm My office closing tomorrow (just announced). It is going to be -28 here on Saturday. Maybe that'll kill the virus? Or at least keep people indoors.

Announced the water utility serving 1.8M is going to telework starting right now. Obviously, a good chunk of our staff can't do that, but for them we are instituting staggered shifts and other mans of minimizing contact/social congregration.
Today was fucking intense. 12 hour day getting all of our messaging (internal/external) lined up and pushed out. Proud of my team, but wish we'd been doing this earlier.

Re: Not so funny real life Capt Trips thread
Surreal day. 5 PM, the superintendent announced we'll be closed tomorrow, next week, and after that we'll see. Good news for me is the board decided to pay us. Bad news is I'm running out of toilet paper and I guess there is no more available in Massachusetts. Worst part of the day was explaining the school closure to a student who depends on free lunches and often struggles to get enough food through a weekend, so I loaded her up with as much food as possible before leaving. Many of the parents in the community have the work flexibility to survive this financially, but so many do not, and I can't even imagine what employees and families are going through in communities that do not have the financial resources my community has. Anyway, parents who did speak to me were very grateful and supportive -- there's a good chance we've been exposed to the virus while caring for their kids. So, I ran my 4 miles and got drunk. What else is there to do?

My daughter is home on spring break, and finally Gonzaga sent out an email today saying that spring break is extended another week, and they'll make a decision about the rest of the semester next Wednesday. I don't see any way that they'll be able to re-open.

Gonna throw this out there now. I'll bet at least one and possibly two GOP Congresspersons (or possibly even Trump) have already tested positive and they're waiting to announce until after the market close on Friday.

The Archbishop of Newark (NJ) "has dispensed the faithful of the Archdiocese from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass until further notice". My wife was worried about her mom sneaking out to church, so that's good.
