While this is no worse than anything Trump says or Tweets every damned day, take a step back and realize that a sitting US President just called for a boycott of an American company because they won't let employees advertise his political fundraising attire. FFS, they have a policy, as I recommend every business adopt, prohibiting clothing promoting ANY political campaign. It's just good HR! But, no different than the Right feeling victimized by every example of not being allowed to do something nobody is allowed to do. If their policy specifically called out MAGA hats only, he has a point. Show me a Biden hat allowed and MAGA hat prohibited, and you have a point.

There was a training slide that showed Black Lives Matter hats are allowed but not MAGA hats. The Sybian wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 11:52 am While this is no worse than anything Trump says or Tweets every damned day, take a step back and realize that a sitting US President just called for a boycott of an American company because they won't let employees advertise his political fundraising attire. Goodyear has now stated that the slide was not part of official training.

I think so too. But then why does Goodyear have to backtrack? Just stick with it. We did create this training slide.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part V - All Hail King Donald, First of his name
Exactly. There is a difference between BLM and Joe Biden.
Let me float this by you. In researching a policy issue for a client, I came across a SHRM article (Society of Human Resource Management) encouraging employers to allow employees to express support for movements like BLM, as it will improve morale and foster a positive work environment. I was really shocked to see that, as SHRM is the undisputed business association in the HR field, and they usually take a very conservative (not politically) position. While I fully agree with a business promoting equality, I feel like BLM is a very controversial organization. I see supporting BLM as different than supporting the idea of equality for all races. I'm all for supporting LGBTQ rights as an employer, but I wouldn't recommend supporting a specific activist group. Maybe I am overly cautious here, but I think companies need to avoid allowing employees too much freedom to express their political views in the office. No matter how righteous a political belief may be, someone will disagree and want to show support for their cause, and I really don't want to get called in when my clients have an employee wearing a White Power hat to the office.

They have to because of the false equivalence PDX was talking about. "Blue Lives Matter" is inherently a racist movement designed to diminish Black Lives Matter. Black Lives Matter has nothing to do with cops other than the ones who abuse their jobs to attack black people.degenerasian wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:23 pmTrue! Bingo. It's like Confederate statues - sure, in theory "Blue Lives Matter" is just about the importance of making sure our police officers are as safe as possible. Just like in theory Confederate statues are about a certain aspect of history.brian wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:28 pmThey have to because of the false equivalence PDX was talking about. But both are only a thing in response to efforts of Blacks to obtain equality. Plus, no one needs to be reminded that Blue Lives Matter - whenever a cop dies on the job here, even from a car wreck, it's a huge story, the funeral is covered on all the local stations, etc. And no one needs to remember that there were people in southern states who fought for the Confederacy.

Not me, my super-racist cousin was the head of the NYPD Internal Affairs. He proudly said, "I'm exactly the kind of guy you want in this role, because I make claims go away." Then he offered to let me shoot his service weapon into the ground at my Aunt's (his mother's) back yard with a bunch of kids around. Hey, it was July 4th!DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2020 2:40 pm

Her confidence that they won't draw an appellate panel with two Trump nutjobs on it, or that the partisan Republican Supreme Court won't step in again to delay the process, is admirable.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part V - All Hail King Donald, First of his name
The Supremes already kicked this case back to the lower courts to allow Trump to make these specific claims, which have all been rejected. You're the lawyer, of course but it seems unlikely any appeals courts or the Supreme Court are going to effectively overrule themselves.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part V - All Hail King Donald, First of his name
I might be getting my cases mixed up, but I don't think these specific claims were addressed. I think the earlier proceedings dealt with whether being President gave Trump a special privilege against the subpoenas. With that issue out of the way, now the courts are dealing with the standard objections any party can raise to a subpoena. So neither the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court has has ruled on these particular objections.brian wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 1:53 pm The Supremes already kicked this case back to the lower courts to allow Trump to make these specific claims, which have all been rejected. So far I think it's fake. I'd be surprised if anyone else was arrested at this point, as I don't think they're identified in the indictment.

Wouldn't it be a State appellate court hearing the claims? Less likely to have a political outcome, I'd think. OTOH, from what I've read, even if the DA gets the tax returns before the election, they won't be able to make anything in the returns public. Any fraud will come out at trial, but that won't be until well after the election. It'd be a shame if the returns were leaked, but I don't think they would do that.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 1:44 pmHer confidence that they won't draw an appellate panel with two Trump nutjobs on it, or that the partisan Republican Supreme Court won't step in again to delay the process, is admirable.

This is still in the federal system, on remand from the Supreme Court. Today's ruling was issued by the federal district court. The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 3:32 pmWouldn't it be a State appellate court hearing the claims? Though yeah, now that you mention it, it would make more sense for this to be in the state system. I would not be surprised if that's the Trump team's next move, after the federal claims are finally defeated.
