I always thought Larry was WAY too hard on himself for Rita's demise. She really REALLY did not want to be helped.

I mean, at that point, how much is reasonable for one person to shoulder, even with Larry's well developed sense of guilt?

While we are here, the biggest miracle in that book wasn't the hand of god ending, it was finding two Setters that were not spayed/nuetered to start the doggy line going again.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Huh. I first read the Stand I think in 7th grade and the me at that age definitely thought he had it figured out. Course, now that I am older and wiser, the sociologist Glen is clearly the hero of that story.

I think that’s accurate. Maybe that’s the disconnect. When I’ve re-read it when older, Larry and Glen Bateman are definitely more sympathetic.
