1. As someone who is about to face this question it’s not academic in this household. I also don’t think the Purdue President is out of line. I happen to think colleges should open - w/ some sensible modifications to help curb the virus as much as possible.

2. As a personal injury lawyer, and someone who is a surveyor of the landscape of potential litigation, I would pump the brakes on the whole what if someone gets sick and dies they will own “fill in blank” university. I don’t think the normal litigation rules are going to apply. The risks are known, sensible precautions can be taken to minimize risk, and life will go on at some point. So I don’t think the litigation field is going to as flush as you all think. We are already passing on inquiries at my firm from families of persons in covid affected nursing homes.

3. The college “experience” being different can’t be helped. But I can 100% assure you all that it will be better for Quinn to go to college this fall than Quinn sitting at home this fall trying to do distance learning for his freshman year of college. What the fuck kind of college experience is that? And, for students like Quinn who has overcome some learning differences, distance learning for college courses is a terrible idea.

I see I killed this thread.

Today was to be Quinn's last official day of HS and then he (and all seniors) at his school would have started internships on Monday. A bunch of cherished senior year traditions came and went yesterday and today. So that's been kinda hard. It is still their technical last day of classes, but the internships are gone and they are back-filling with "projects" that can be done at home. Just another brick in the wall.

It is also why I am so stubborn about wanting college to open this fall and colleges to do what they can to open.

Some schools are getting creative. An example is setting up graduation on Animal Crossing. In 20 years from now, you could say that your graduation was done in a video game.

I need a meter that shows what percentage I’m convinced, by day and sometimes hour, that Degen is playing the longest game.

Ha, I was just reviving the thread.

It was on the radio this morning that schools are doing this. Especially since every fucking grade has a year-end graduation now. i mean who the fuck graduates Grade 4? Animal Crossing is making a killing during the crisis as people need chat with people, host parties, or try on clothes or whatever.

My son (who's 23) started violently puking early this morning.

No other symptoms but still was recommended that we bring him in for a test. Took no time whatsoever and we'll have results within 24 hours.

I'm not too worried, and it's strange to think that the best case scenario is that there is a stomach virus in the house. Looks like I'll be losing the "Covid 15" sooner rather than later...

Yea sudden onset puking with no other symptoms sounds more like food poisoning/stomach bug. Bonne chance mon ami. I had food poisoning earlier this year and was so violently ill I shit myself while sleeping!

So much for the horrible healthcare in Canada we hear so much about. No way they give you test in NJ right now without having every symptom of COVID.

My wife called "Telehealth Ontario" a government phone line staffed by RNs, was on hold for 3-5 minutes, then spoke to a nurse. Conversation took another 5 minutes and then she was given a referral number.

Luckily, one of the 12 hospitals with a testing clinic is a 5 minute drive from here without traffic. She was 3rd in line and was out of there in 15 minutes.

Half hour from phone call to being back home. Now, we are lucky to live that close, and we are in a major city with many hospitals, but the process is very well run. Canadians know that our system has big problems. But the vast majority of us would not trade it for what you guys have.

Hope it all works out and it's just the stomach flu.

And agreed, would not trade Canadian healthcare for anything, even with all it's warts.

I swear I think I had this symptom...

‘Frostbite’ toes and other peculiar rashes may be signs of hidden coronavirus infection, especially in the young
As a dermatologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Esther Freeman was prepared for things to be a bit quieter during the pandemic lockdown. But not too long after it began, she started getting urgent calls about odd frostbite-like patches showing up on people’s toes.

The rash itself was rather harmless.

While some complained of a burning sensation, the inflammation usually disappeared on its own in two to three weeks without treatment. What was striking is that many of those patients had tested positive for covid-19.

“My inbox and my telemedicine clinic are full of just toes. It’s all about toes. I have never seen so many toes,” Freeman said.

Had a very long and fruitful conversation with my mother tonight, in which i had to delicately explain to her that my anxiety and depression swings have been so severe through this, that if i didn't smoke weed to calm myself down when im on some of these ledges i would very likely be back on much harder drugs. this is weird, but i never thought i'd be sitting on the porch at 2am having a heart to heart with my mom at the house while i smoked a joint. In a lifetime full of weird nights, this one is up there.

My town just mandated masks to be worn inside and outside, including, runners, walkers, and bikers. Tried to run once with a mask and couldn't do it, so switched to carrying a cloth to cover my mouth when I passed someone, but guess that's out.

I don't jog anymore, but I do ski... And when it's cold, I have no issue throwing on a mask (of sorts.)

Maybe think of it as a much less fun version of skiing?

Do you snorkel? Maybe see if that will fly with the local constabulary.

I have anxiety with breathing with masks, snorkels, anything unnatural. The snorkel would be funny. The order went in because cases are still going up in my town. I don't think making people wearing masks outside will work as well as closing stores and converting everything to curbside pickup/delivery. Just feels like they're trying half-assed solutions. Just frustrated and was hoping for more progress by now.

Good luck. Seems the world is starting to revolve again. For better or worse. Definitely worse. As much as I've been adamant about staying in I'm headed a few hundred miles for a funeral tomorrow. Had my first hearing this morning (albeit telephonic) but everyone else was live. Granted a first appearance at the jail but I'm going to need some real resolve to make through May before the world sucks me back in.

The mid-June one is in the Bay Area, which made American and Delta's announcement about requiring travelers to wear masks today just a little more special.

I'm sure our client is trying to figure out how to best get around that, starting with moving their event out of a convention center, as Governor Newsom listed convention centers as part of the fourth stage of California's eventual re-opening. Our client, of course, has their own venue, food service, etc. at their disposal.

So Lowe’s put me in a real dilemma. Supposed to be one person per household. But you’re either 1) letting me pick out flowers and shit or 2) letting my wife pick out flowers and shit.

Option one means things she won’t like at a reasonable price and option 2 is things she likes at unreasonable prices. We both went in.

I got a new rubber mallet. She didn’t like the flowers they had. And yet we still spent almost a Hundo.

I still feel like absolute dogshit, and don’t yet have test results back. Still no shortness of breath or serious cough though, which is promising. I’ve had a brutal headache now since Tuesday, and starting Friday my whole body was aching. Even my eyeballs hurt. Given that, I’m starting to think it’s just flu, though I’ve never had a strain that took this long to kick. Fever isn’t spiking as frequently the last 36hrs though so maybe I’m nearing the final lap.
