I’ve gotten 2 cortisone shots in my left rotator cuff in the last 12 mos. I fear I’m headed under the knife in 2019, if the pain returns (which it has, but I’m trying to ignore it).

Mine's definitely not at that point. I'm pretty sure I could spend 75% of the year without much pain if I just never threw another ball overhand, but that option sucks. (And I can't scratch a lot of my back.)

Curious, what's the downtime?

I haven’t had my rotator cuff done, but I had surgery on my AC joint (both shoulders) and full mobility came back in about 4 weeks.

hang up and listen podcast ended talking about overtime football rules...I like the "california overtime". Team 1 starts on the 50, does a play. Team 2 takes the ball from the end of play 1 and runs a play. Game goes 8 plays back-and-forth. Winner is like tug of war.

better than what Georgia and others used...the penetration rule
The old penetration rule meant that teams were awarded a point in overtime for having the deepest penetration into the other team's territory.

"California" overtime? Never heard of that being used in California. It sounds horrible.

how the hell did you not know where your rotator cuff was

and the downtime to a rotator cuff injury depends on what of the many variations of types of injuries you actually have. you could have anything from a torn bicep tendon to a subscapularis injury to ... yeah

but ... how the hell did you not know where your rotator cuff was

Its one of those things I thought I always knew, for whatever reason, but never verified or saw otherwise. I have no good explanation here.

I mean, I know generally where mine is but i couldn't draw it with any certainty on an anatomical drawing.

edit: I would have been pretty dang close.

My father has had some health issues, so I'm at my parents' home for a week. They have their television turned on most of the time, but rarely on something I want to watch. It is often tuned in to the local news. Both my mother and father have well-formed opinions on who are their preferred and disliked news anchors, both local and national. It's kind of a big deal to them.

My opinion is that, since news anchors mostly just read what is in front of them, they are nothing very important. That was not a popular opinion.

My wife and I just talked about how we don’t know anybmain news anchor other than Lester holt. It isn’t as respected a position as it was in Brokaw/rather days and prior.

How many people under the age of 65 watch network evening news broadcasts? Last time I saw the evening news, Dan Rather was still at CBS. [Holy fuck, 14 years ago!]. Looking at the other networks, I think I watched some nights of Brian Williams, who started in 2004. I vaguely remember Katie Couric getting the role and that being controversial or people thinking she sucked, but she was there for 5 years! I didn't even know Scott Pelley took over after Couric, and he was there for 6 years, followed by Anthony Mason and Jeff Glor, neither of whom I've ever heard of. What a crazy old relic the network news has become. Looking at ABC, I definitely never saw any of the anchors who followed Jennings in 2005. 20 years ago, it would have been unimaginable not to know who the network news anchors were.

There was a time when Cronkite, Brinkley, Chancellor and their ilk were probably among the most respected Americans.

Similar story up here. But when the older generation faded away into narrating nature shows, I think people realized that news anchors were little more than meat puppets who could read in a deep voice.

A few weeks back, we ran a survey asking you all to share your drunk shopping habits (how much you spend, what you buy, where you buy it) and then dug into how it all varies by age, profession, income, and a ton of other variables.
Turns out, you sloppy jabronies spend an average of $444 per year on stuff while under the influence. Those of you in Kentucky nearly double that.

No wonder she's the most hated woman in the country.

I went to a gala event for my friend's nonprofit on Saturday. (This one if you're curious: https://www.pawsandstripes.org)

So there's 10 of us sitting at our table and my buddy says about another person at our table (who I've met before but haven't seen in a very long time) that "He's a really good photographer, and possibly one of the best because he used to be Bush's photographer."

I was like: "No shit? He knows Gavin Rossdale and was their photographer? That's really cool. Not sure why that makes him 'the best,' but ok."

He looks at me completely dumbfounded while another buddy starts laughing and applauds because I mention Gavin Rossdale. "Wow, what a callback. That's awesome that that's the first person to come to mind."

So my dumbfounded buddy goes: "What the hell are you talking about? President Bush's photographer."

And I just start laughing. Then I say "Oh, that's not as cool. I thought you meant someone important."
