I think police as a whole need to stop protecting bad cops. I fully understand the Thin Blue Line mentality, I have empathy for the dangerous situations they put themselves in, I can't imagine what its like to be the first person on the scene of an accident with fatalities, or being in a shootout, or breaking up domestic violence with kids in the house, or... It's a job fraught with horrors, especially in a big city, and I get the near-military camaraderie, but it's way past time for the "Good Cops" to refuse to protect the "Bad Cops." I think at this point, if you actively shield a bad cop, you are no longer a good cop.

This is the shit that makes me nervous about the joy in this decision. We get to play this game with every police action now. Full stop, I've read one article on this and I'm not going to jump to anyone's defense but here's what I've read.
1) Cop shot a 15 year old kid
2) Cop had been on the scene for 10 seconds before he pulled his gun
3) Kid who was shot had another kid pinned against a car and was apparently going after her with a knife

Just in those 3 facts alone, there is SO much to unpack, but most headlines I'm reading are "cop kills 15 year old black girl". I don't get what that accomplishes other than an editor going "well we've got a lot of momentum about racist policing so..."

Not sticking up for the cop, not saying anything that happened was OK. But there's a lot of knee jerk reaction based on 2 facts there and automatically people comparing this to another George Floyd moment.
