Yes! Pandering versus integrity is just one of the many decisions here!

rass wrote: Wed Jul 01, 2020 10:37 am The thing:

Create a seven (7) song playlist that includes one (1) song from the album you provided as an answer to the thread's initial question, and six (6) other songs, one (1) each from any six (6) other ALBUMS released that same year.

(if it fucking comes to it, let's assume US release dates)
(see jerloma's list earlier as an example)
(and mister d has a bug up his ass about greatest hits and live albums, so don't use those for your supplemental choices)

Your playlist will go head to head with the playlist of the Swamper you are grouped with in the bracket. A vote will be taken, and the winner will move on the next round.

If you have access to Spotify, you should put together the playlist yourself. When appropriate, you will post the link/URL to playlist here. Or do it right away if you don't give a shit if your opponent sees it early.

If you do not have a Spotify account, create a free one? If necessary, send me your list, but ideally you should have a way to listen to everyone else's submissions so you an vote.

There will likely be some level of remix of playlists (forced, or by choice) between rounds but no one has settled on the rules for that yet.
Thanks, Rass.

Mr. D, what are you proposing for our year (which looks like a really good one)? You and I draft amongst ourselves? I'm in. Something else? I'm probably in for that too.

After only a bit of research, I'm ready to declare 2007 the best year for indie music ever.

I tried not to look until I put out the rules in case people wanted to change things up, but there are atleast two (2) albums I really thought were 2007 that weren't and one (1) that I didn't think was that is. Not that I would have picked a different favorite either way, but if everyone wanted to do "a year after the release" or something, I wanted no bias.

Yeah, come up with our own short lists and then pick bands or songs over email so we can avoid overlap / see what the other prioritizes.

TBD ... my original thought was all new songs each round but that might be effort prohibitive.

What about expanded rosters in each round?

2007 is so stacked

I'm open to most anything. Only rule, and its new, is that if you share a year, you can't take a song from someone else's prior round.

Can I propose that for tie-breakers the two participants swap years, keep the same "initial" album, and pick 7 brand new songs?

I don't have Spotify, but many of you will know most, if not all of these.

Afghan Whigs - “My Curse”
New Order - “Regret”
Snoop Dogg - “Gin and Juice”
Tool - “Sober”
Cypress Hill - “Insane in the Brain”
Depeche Mode - “I Feel You”
Mazzy Star - “Fade Into You”

Both Giff and Ryan's entries have stinkers, IMO. My unscientific method (2 points for great song, 1 point for good song) has Giff ahead 7-6.

To be clear, not putting it off. Just have to find six perfect songs off of the 23 albums I've picked out.

Going through Ryan's list and it was hard to imagine that RATM came out in 1992. I would have lost any bets on that. I associate it so much with my Jr and Sr years in high school. 93-95.

Now that I read that, I can see 1992.

Also notices that 17 of the 24 albums are from a ten year span of 88-98. Not surprising given our age range.
