I think I did this right. This game got me to finally get Spotify.

So semi-thread jack, but serious question -- did some of you guys not even have the free version of Spotify, like you just didn't have the app at all?

I know I'm maybe being overdramatic, but I can't imagine why someone wouldn't. I pay for the subscription because the lack of ads and additional features make it worth it to me, but I can't even imagine living without the free version. Have they had any issues with data like Facebook or something like that and I've missed it? Because I don't give a crap if "the man" knows that I listen to a lot of Icelandic folk rock or whatever.

(And I'm not making light of privacy concerns -- the Facebook stuff is vile. I just legitimate hadn't heard anything that bad about Spotify.)

Hey guys, thinking about coming back to Spotify Premium?

Spotify is really anti-artist and I only justify it now due to several years of minimal purchases and the knowledge I’ll still purchase what I really like.

Should this be set up as 24 hours to vote then the next 24 to talk about it while another matchup is being voted on? Not sure if live debate can skew voting.

Yeah I still buy albums from my favorite artists and live shows and merch. But I don’t see how I could live without Spotify. It’s so comprehensive.

I barely use Spotify. I have a free account but I don’t use it often. Amazon prime music and my own library works for me generally.

It appears that only one song on my album is available on Spotify. It isn’t the song I’d put up in a contest though. There are other albums from the same year that I can pick if that’s ok.

I don’t personally have Spotify but my daughter says I can use her account.

I still listen to mp3’s on my phone - 1,200 songs, culled from thousands of songs from my albums, cds, downloads, and a hard drive of music a friend gave me. Someday I’ll switch to streaming. Maybe.

This is a great event because I’ll hear a ton of music I either never heard or haven’t heard for a long time.

i have a morning jazz, a funk, and a couple playlists I made in the past but wouldn't use Spotify If I could get my google home to access my home library.

I couldn't imagine life without Spotify. There are so many bands I'd never heard of that become my some of my favorites ever because of it.

Somewhere along the way, I lost most of my interest in music. I shifted to podcasts, actively listening to some and treating others as background noise. I've since dropped the" background noise" ones and just never came back to music. I'll occasionally turn the TV in my office on to a "music choice" channel, which is fine for background music. Even the artists I really like, I just haven't kept up with.

BTW, it would be handy if Mr D would edit the first post to keep the playlists that are currently competing.

Jeff Buckley died in 1997 and Hallelujah was on Grace (released in 1994).

Shenanigans abound already. Where is the commissioner in all of this? Why has he not made a statement and sanctioned this egregious act of blatant cheating??

Buckley did have an album (Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk) released posthumously in 1998 so songs from that album would be eligible.

For Emma, Forever Ago - self released in 2007, put out on Jagjaguwar in 2008. Will I include it?

FWIW, I'm not checking everyone's lists or shitting on Shirley/Dave, but making mine made me recall a LOT of music that I listened to in college, which would include a LOT of Jeff Buckley's Grace. That was a "get stoned and put the album on repeat" night more than once and I graduated in 1996, so hence my confusion.

2007 release per wiki, 2008 per Spotify. I guess since we're doing this in Spotify that should be the system of record.

Song, or song on said album? It was a tough call between that track and Skinny Love for me? Do I pander, or put on my preference. I went pander until you DQ'd the whole album.

I'm not taking this that seriously, but everyone is kinda under the same guise of not using a greatest hits album put out in the year you've got right? Live albums are eh...sketchy?

Not looking forward to this head to head knowing the indie preferences of this board. Teardrop and Doo-Wop are all timers.

Semi-title track is my favorite. Weird placement at the end.

Neither are ok since odds are any song on them would have already been released, right? Exception would be like "Bad Day" off In Time for 2003, I guess.

Kinda what I figured. Unless there was a brand new track on a live record. I guess I had Foo Fighters "Greatest Hits" on my 09 releases and there were 4 previously unreleased tracks on that, for another example.

This is some horseshit. Putting two songs from the same album should be disqualifying.

I don't have a problem with someone doing it, but I also don't have a problem with someone deciding that's a valid reason not to vote for a particular list.
