I’m not shocked he’s out but I’m terrified of who they’ll pick. Every name out there is worse than the one before and I’m sure Dolan is going to have uneducated input.

Of the names that are being bandied about the only one that seems promising would be Gallant, but I don't know how good he would be with the younger players (he might be good, but it's a fair question).

Yeah, if I'm putting guys in buckets, him and Knoblauch are the only two that have been out there that don't leave me nervous or worse. And even with Gallant, he seems to get fired pretty fucking soon after good results a bit often.

I'm thinking he might be a good hire even if that's true though. Rangers could use a guy to get them from where they are now to the next level (competing for division titles, winning a playoff round or two, etc.). Seems like if you think he can do that again, it's worth it to pull the trigger and replace him in two or three years if you have to. I'm still not really sure what was the final straw in Vegas though, but you're right in that's two straight jobs where he seemed to be doing pretty well and got ziggied somewhat unceremoniously. The players in both places seemed to still love him, so must be something with the GM/front office/ownership.

I'm not even sure where Torts would land on my "would you accept this to avoid a worst case" list. Babcock would be awful. Roy no. Hartley no. Messier would be Trottier II, presumably without the handwritten letter. I don't even know who else could be on this bad list. Sather himself? Isaiah Thomas?

Most top 5 lists for any job (like Seattle for instance) are

1. Gallant
2. Boudreau
3. Julien
4. Yeo
5. Tocchet

You're missing #1; a certain coach who is out of contract as soon as the playoffs end because no extension has been signed yet.

Some other names here...wonder if Todd Reirden will get a look after a good Caps run with underwhelming playoffs.

Montgomery is an interesting name I haven't seen yet. Successful until it fell apart and he had to go to rehab. Might have an appeal to perhaps the only good side of Dolan.

Why are only 4 playoff games scheduled and 3 in the same series?

Vancouver's covid situation means the Canukistan playoffs are going to take longer to get finished.

I thought they didn’t have any games left against playoff teams.

The NHL is allergic to starting the playoffs before finishing meaningless regular season games. Side perk: it gives the Canadian government a few more days to maybe allow for games in Canada in round 3.

I don't even know why they are playing these Flames-Canucks games. Just cancel them like baseball does.

Jesus Christ, man. Some of them are that aren't scheduled. One that is has 3 scheduled. In what conceivable way do you think that answers my question?

Also there's no Stanley Cup Playoffs Logo inside the bluelines. Looks weird.

Jeff Carter was a huge acquisition.

He's also going to do some serious damage in the Xbox NHL 2015 fantasy league incidentally.
