It's kind of insane that other outlets haven't done this, but Defector actually talked to a bunch of massage therapists. w/r/t DeShaun Watson.

Knowing as many as I do, their opinions here are completely unsurprising.

So if Rodgers retires and pays the Packers a chunk of change, what’s to stop Rodgers from un-retiring and signing elsewhere?

There are different "lists" for former players and if a player is on the "retirement list" he can only return to the team which most recently held his contract (obviously this doesn't apply to players who retire out of contract).

So if he comes back he has to either come back as a Packer or the Packers have to trade his rights.

Letting him retire might save the Pack a boatload of cash, keep his rights, and give a big middle finger to Rogers. But, trading him might bring a nice haul in return. I'd think if they truly believe he won't play for Green Bay at all, the football guys might prefer getting something in return.

There's a non-zero chance the Texans would just trade their 2022 draft for him.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be worth trading for, but there's not as big of a market for even an elite, 38-year-old QB. It would have to be a team with a 1-2 year window (and no franchise QB of its own obvs). Not sure what that list would look like, but it's not long.

So yeah Green Bay would get something for sure, but I couldn't see it being more than a late-round first (so something like 16-32). (And that's not nothing, but it's hardly something that Green Bay is going to be able to rebuild around.)

Any reason he can't play until he's 42 or 43? We've seen plenty of that of late at that position. I think a team getting him now is getting a 3-5 year window. Denver should be shoveling EVERYTHING it can at him. Multiple first round picks. Without blinking or hesitation.

If I am understanding Spotrac correctly, Packers would eat a $17.2 million cap hit for trading Rodgers and they currently have under $3.5 million in space right now.

I'm getting $14.4MM cap penalty for a post-June 1st trade, but you're also losing his $37.2MM cap hit so its a net gain of $22.8MM, no?

I think it's pretty hilarious that the Jags are signing a 33 year-old ex-quarterback to play a position at which he has no experience. I guess it shows how desperate the team and Tebow both are to associate themselves with some headlines.

Kinda mystifying that Meyer thinks that gifting a roster spot to his buddy for a position he's wholly unsuited for will somehow actually HELP morale on the Jaguars. Honestly not even sure Urban makes it more than 1 season. I'm thinking he'll quit after the Jags go 4-12, claiming some kind of medical ailment.

I'd sign tebow in jacksonville too. He's one of 90. I think they can let a local idol ride for a couple months. I gained in respect for his willingness to stick with baseball. Wasn't just stunt. I'd say the same about tight end just too bad he didn't do it 10 years ago.

If I had enough money to not need to work, I would also stick to baseball if gifted a roster spot.

Tight end is the most athletically demanding position in football. It's insane that people just assumed Tebow could be an NFL tight end when he was 24, let alone 34.

He was adequate as the deeper blocker who protects the punter when he was with the Jets.

Great move from a promotional standpoint. He'll probably end up on the coaching staff or as the team chaplain.

Did they announce which team will be featured on "Hard Knocks" this season?

FWIW Jim would have been a very good athlete by NFL TE standards when he entered the draft. But....look at that 3-cone time. WTF!

You can only really laugh. I mean the scariest part is the Lions probably aren’t the worst franchise for the last 10, 20, 30, 40 or 50 years.

I think it all depends on what Lawrence does. Of course, I don't know how to split up Meyer and the Jags' organizational incompetence since Shahid Khan bought them. In nine full seasons under his ownership, they're 39-105 (.271) with eight double-digit loss seasons.

There's no reason to expect Meyer to have success, but there's also basically no reason for the Jaguars to have success, either.

ETA: 41-106 (.279) if you include their one postseason appearance. Of course, if you just strike that season altogether, they're 29-99 (.227).

The Lions, for example, are 61-82-1 (.427) in that span. The Browns are 44-99-1 (.309), which includes a span of one win in two seasons.

Allow me to play Devil’s Advocate for a moment.

Running Back, while it takes tremendous athletic skill to do well, isn’t a particularly difficult position to lean the ins and outs of. Rookies come in every year and kick ass. Receiver, instead, is complex to learn. Learning that position could give Etienne some added value. While hardly any RB outside of Adrian Peterson should’ve been drafted in Round 1 in the last 15 years or so, turning Etienne into a poor-man’s LeVeon could pay dividends.

If Belichick was doing this, I think it’d have a much different view.

I meant more along the lines of having a rookie RB run reps with the receivers, but yes, I agree it’s certainly not conventional.

I'd say pass pro reps would be worth keeping him at back for minicamps but maybe they know he can't block NFL blitzers.
