Genius or Insanity?

Post by EnochRoot »

Should Biden pardon Trump?

First glance is a gag reflex, but it is...interesting.

If a majority of the GOP repudiated Trump like it did Nixon in the 70s I MIGHT think about agreeing but the real lesson the GOP took from Nixon-Watergate was that it wouldn’t be punished, a lesson they really learned after Iran/Contra and which continues today.

I don't see an upside to pardoning Trump. What is the perceived upside? That Trump has to admit wrongdoing to receive the pardon? Big deal.

It's not the 70's.

Evil has been unleashed upon the land in the form of militias etc., pardoning Trump won't make any of it go away.

Shouldn't even be entertained without some major reconciliation on his part... starting with conceding the election, apologizing for like everything, calling off the militias, etc.

It would actually be pretty interesting to see what he'd do if it was between that and jail.

He would do every single thing you asked for with a stupid grin on his face and walk away with everything gained and nothing lost?

Would Trump even accept a pardon? To answer PDX's question, i think Trump would rather go to jail.

Unless Biden makes a presentation of him signing the document with Trump present, and then turns the document to the cameras with “SYKE!” written on it in Sharpie, then no.

I think "should Biden pardon Trump" depends on how solid the case for a federal criminal prosecution would be.

I'd really hate to see the US bring a bunch of prosecutions that fail or only get some ticky-tack misdemeanor conviction. At some point successive prosecutions would make Trump an object of sympathy or feed a "both sides" narrative among the millions of only partially engaged voters.

So if there's a solid prosecution available, take it. But just one or one series of events. And if there isn't, might as well pardon him. (And let NY state or someone take a shot at him.)
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Wouldn't this assume Trump to have integrity?

Wouldn't he just deny the reality of accepting the pardon?
