Still not seeing any proof this was ever seriously considered as a realistic option.

Oh, now it's "serious" and "realistic"? Way to move the goalposts man.

Those were all serious articles. No one said realistic.

I guess my problem is that I haven't seen a single quotation from anyone with any pull in the Democratic Party saying "The Democrats should replace Biden with Cuomo." There's articles discussing rumors that "some Democratic insiders" want to do that - but probably the Democratic insiders they are talking about are Cuomo and his staff. The Boston Herald piece comes the closest, but then you read it and realize that the writer is not connected to the Democratic party, just someone who doesn't like Biden.

And given what prompted this thread, it's kinda funny that he said this:
Cuomo is everything Biden is not — a strong orator who oozes leadership and decisiveness. He’s macho without being threatening or creepy.
Yes, after the primary race was over and there were lots of people with column inches to fill or attention to seek, there was idle "what-if" speculation, because why not. Cuomo was in his fifteen minutes of fame as a national (i.e., New York but that's where the media is) darling. And Biden was just kinda there, he had won the nomination by default.

But that was just noise, just like the online speculation earlier that Michael Avenatti would be the next nominee.

So we agree that Johnnie's "remember when there was serious conversation" is factual whereas "remember when Dem leadership actively considered" would not be. Good.

Yes, maybe? I guess I don't think idle media chatter about rumors is really serious conversation?

Weird debate over a hypothetical situation that prior to these allegations coming out isn't all that bizarre a conversation to have had.

Did anyone on this board know that he was fucking creep and a fraudster prior to the last few weeks?

I don't begrudge Johnnie bringing it up, but I fail to see how, in the moment that discussion was taking place, that it was so outlandish.

Is that too obvious a point? If so, apologies.

See guys the fact that there are speculative articles from a long time ago about a guy that might be a dem candidate even though he wasn't and the party didn't preemptively remove him from 'the conversation' based on stuff that wasn't known until months later is just further proof that They're All The Same®.

Some might say the proof they're all the same is that the only consequences to date are bad press and some people inside the party publicly objecting.

It was pretty outlandish. First of all, Biden was never going to replaced. And even if that was a consideration, why Cuomo? Why not other candidates that were in the race? Why not Bernie, who finished 2nd? Why not other Governors? And why did he get an Emmy for "masterful" COVID-10 briefings (and now we know he was lying), doing the same briefings that other Governors where doing?

Not really the point I was making, but I'll cede that it never seemed like a realistic option.

And we can all discount his briefings in HINDSIGHT, but it's pretty ridiculously revisionist to claim they weren't soothing and just what many American needed to counter the utter nonsense going on in the White House at the time.

I think this is one of those places where I have such a psychological disconnect from most people.

I do think that Cuomo's press conferences were informative, and we tuned in every day. But I didn't think they were soothing.

I went through the same thing with the Giuliani worship right after 9/11. I couldn't figure out how he became a national hero for giving a couple of press conferences.

Though maybe this is all just my inherent Chicago-based animosity towards anything New York.

I think this is the argument, it wasn't hindsight, people knew.

And perhaps it was because it was New York and it got national attention, but almost all Governor's briefings (the Democratic ones anyways) had the same effect. And really, the Chief Medical Doctors are the real stars of these briefings, not the Governors. I think we have to admit that Andrew Cuomo was put up on a pedestal and now they have to tear him down.

I never understood the adulation either. I mean, New York was just about the worst place for Covid in the world for a month or two there. Is that really who we think did a great job?

At the time literally no leaders were taking charge or even being upfront about the realities of the virus. Remember that trump et al were going so far as to gag the CDC as well as their own task force team. Cuomo was one of the best sources for actual information, and I think we were all looking at NYC as a microcosm for what could potentially befall the rest of the country.

I'm not personal friends with the Cuomo family and my comment is made with the benefit of hindsight, so I didn't know first hand the dude was a sleaze.

I'm just saying it was discussed, but not realistic to move Biden out of the way because of how the media fawned over him at this time last year. He held those conferences and called out Trump. Liberals swooned. The Liberal chub factor moved a needle of a hypothetical scenario. Not amongst the Swamp, but in certain circles where content and clicks are king.

But I do have to say, when his brother works for CNN and his dad was a previous governor of New York, I'm going to be skeptical of politicians like him regardless.

If you gave me a list of MLB All-Stars and slipped in a bunch of made up names, I'd never know. I'm sure there will be names on hall of fame ballots I don't recognize. Same for hockey and basketball. I used to be a big Knicks fan, and I realized I couldn't name a single player on the team. Pre-COVID I said if MLB and the NBA disappeared tomorrow, I wouldn't even notice. Turns out, that wasn't an exaggeration. But I will pay $40,000 for a highlight GIF.

Man, the messaging liberals have with guns is so horrible.

Biden has called on him to resign. But I'm sure he won't.

There's no need to. Trump proved that you can just...remain. Doesn't matter what people think.

Yeah, I’ve seen some “game over” type tweets after the Biden comment and … that doesn’t really feel like it would move the needle with Cuomo.
