So the Savannah Bananas are trying a new style of baseball
* No Walks..on ball 4 the runner takes off, the other team has to through the ball to all of the other players on the field. Batter goes as far as he can
* No stepping out of the batters box once you step in
* No visits to the mound (just yell when you want to swap pitchers)
* you win an inning by having more runs, first to 5 innings wins
* fan catches a foul ball, out

That's similar to a game elementary students play. It's good because it encourages more participation.
I would have loved watching the 2004 Red Sox outfield mess it up.

Even if the next bulletpoint were "team that punches Mister D's parents the most gets 1st overall pick", I couldn't hate these proposals any more than I do now.

“And Ramirez is nowhere to be found. Another inside the park walk for the Orioles!”

I am kinda intrigued by the match play concept.
Though if you have to play until someone wins five innings, that could lead to a lot of longer games if there are a lot of tied innings.

Blame Manfred for teams having to get creative.

The home team would be repeatedly playing for the tie if they went down one. It would be awful.

Hm. I wonder how that would play out in reality. In extra-inning games, have you noticed a difference in the way the game is played when the visiting team scores one in the top of the inning? (Or in the ninth inning of a game where the home team is down by one.) I assume there are more sacrifice bunts in those situations, but do we know if that's true?
I wish I could break this out by position player only. The peaks in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th would indicate its pitchers doing a lot of the bunting pre-extras.

Here's a perfectly formatted list of the total position player bunt attempts by inning for 2010-2020. If I didn't give up on plate appearances loading after 2 minutes, we could get the percentage.
I would take no stepping out of the box, no visits to the mound, and just for giggle foul ball catches for outs ("Give that fan a contract" at O's games would be a bit more meaningful...)

Stephen King would lead the league in putouts

I like both of these in theory but you'd have to have exceptions (injuries, bugs flying in eyes, shit like that) and then you'd have to manage the teams that take advantage of the exceptions.

Might as well cut to the chase and just end baseball altogether.

Interesting, but it’s a different game than baseball so give it a different name.
Cricket?

Ah, the late great Rex Barney. I once heard him announce (near the end of his career) “batting 3rd, third base, #8, Cal...Smith.” I was sitting behind the plate and Cal just turned around and stared up where Rex sat and smiled.

Good for him. It's about time someone did something. Is he the Commish? What has he done? I assume he has nothing to do with the Bananas rules.

Actually, while I love the Jomboy guys, skip to around the 12 minute mark for actual game play. The advancing on a walk is hilarious and fun.

I'm confused, are they playing in a league with these rules, or playing separate exhibitions for fun? I see they are in the Coastal League. So confused, but they got my attention and I saw they sold out every game between 2017-2019, and I can't imagine many minor league teams can say that.

This is a 4 game series where they are trying some things out

Every Dayton Dragons home game has been a sell out since they were founded in 2000.

Oh, that's fun! I'm all for this. Anything that brings in fans and attention has to be good.

Didn't see a baseball thread.

I'm gonna be down there this weekend and I'm really bummed that it's impossible to get tickets. I might still try and buy some merch. (My mom grew up down there, so I have a thin bond with the city to begin with.)
