Isn't Sara Gilbert pretty far left? I was surprised when she agreed to be on the reboot, but money talks.

She's an EXECUTIVE PRODUCER of the show. Money does indeed talk.

Wanda Sykes was the head writer up until this morning.

ETA - There is absolutely something to say about the lack of shows "speaking to" the Venn diagram of folks that are middle class/blue collar/MAGA Trumpers. And there's a way to go about it where you have kind of an Archie Bunker type character... Out of touch with the changes going on in America, stubborn, slightly offensive (to some), but endearing overall.

I stopped watching original Roseanne after 3 or 4 seasons because I can't stand her voice and the plot lines were getting loopy. And I never even considered watching this pile of shit. So I don't know if that's how they were using her.

But there's a show out there that someone could cash in on, if they can hold their nose long enough to pull it off.

Archie was endearing to America because everybody had an Archie Bunker in their extended family. Also, he was but a character played by Carroll O'Connor, who managed to infuse humanity into the archetypal character.

I think that story can definitely be told again, btw.

I over-stated Wanda's role. She was a consultant or something.

I think it says a lot that almost 20M people were tuning into this show. Like it or not, a lot of people are finding out with Trump that they have a Roseanne in their extended family.

Freelancers will take almost any job. It's how porno films get made.

And just because she's a black lesbian doesn't mean that she can turn down a well-paying gig.

Fox already opted to revive "Last Man Standing" with Tim Allen a couple weeks ago after a year off television, acknowledging the success of "Roseanne" as part of the reason.

And, with the "consulting producer" title, she gets closer to membership (or maintaining her membership) in the Producers' Guild of America and is not required to write any scripts for the show, but work solely in a "punch up" role. Getting some sort of "producer" credit like this (or co-executive producer, etc.) is essentially a promotion when someone is a writer but there is no traditional place to move up to.

I think in the comedy world Rosanne and Sykes have run in the same circles. I enjoyed Last Comic Standing (despite all of its issues).
Wanda Sykes was the EVP for Season 8 of the show......and that was the year they had Roseanne Barr, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Russell Peters served as the judges with JB Smoove as the host.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live- ... ast-655797

Season 9 (the last one they did) was also Sykes with Barr as a judge.

She also called Susan Rice a man with big swinging ape balls back in 2013.

Just like with Trump, she spews so much nonsense, people just tune it out and ignore it. And of course, back then she wasn't in the spotlight.

She should know better for sure. Silly to give the professional victims on the right any chance to flex their ability to try and compare things that have nothing to do with each other -- like a personal insult (Bee) vs. blatant racism (Barr) -- to further their shitty agendas.

I assumed they had some clever grand plan in mind, because how could you not foresee this reaction (especially after the Roseanne controversy earlier in the week), but they folded almost instantly.

Third rail, or just towards women? Because I’ve referred to her father and her brothers as cunts many a times, including here.

And can’t women, especially comedians, call other women cunts? Sort of how black comedians can call other blacks the n-bomb?

Not from what women have told me. It's never said as anything less than a vicious insult.

Even though she's from toronto, I'm not a huge fan of Samantha Bee. She's like other news comics. Sometimes funny, but usually shooting fish in a barrel. That's what makes John oliver better - the fact that his show does good investigative work as well - at least inasmuch as the show will have a lengthy piece that explains an issue (with a specific POV).

ETA - She''s right about Ivanka.

Again, mileage absolutely varies on this, but I'd agree with Pruitt... It's considered by many women to be roughly equivalent to the n word or the f word for homosexuals.
