LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Saturday Night Live” cast member Leslie Jones is leaving the NBC show after five seasons, while Kate McKinnon is sticking around.
Jones’ departure was confirmed by a person familiar with the change who spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss Jones’ status with the long-running sketch series.
The departure comes as Jones is branching out into other projects.
The person also said McKinnon will return for her eighth season with the show. McKinnon’s portrayals of political figures including Hillary Clinton and Jeff Sessions have become a “SNL” staple.
Earlier this month, Jones announced she’s doing a Netflix stand-up special. Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jones said it’s great to be an actress but that she’s really a “hardcore” stand-up comedian.

McKinnon drives me crazy. Not a big fan. While she does lots of political characters, they are all the same character in different costumes
I agree on the acting chops but Leslie Jones makes me giggle when they use her physical stature as part of the comedy (black annie, "The Rock Obama" sketch).

She's got a Maura Tierney vibe going on... She's the kind of woman that is attractive but seemingly accessible in a way that the common guy thinks he might have a shot.
She may be a bitch on wheels*, but her persona screams otherwise.
That last shot(s) into the tunnel was cool as shit. And great song.
So they synced up at the end, right? After the screen unsplit, and the two red heads(?!) passed by, it was Nadia in the pirate shirt and Alan in the karma scarf together. Walking in the opposite direction they had been though.
And yeah the homeless guy. Wearing a wedding dress at the end, huh?

I finished Season 1 of The Boys last night. That was pretty awesome. At first, I just thought it would a fun, darker take on superheroes, but without too much substance. But I think it actually got better as it went along and the last episode was incredible.
I didn't realize before I started watching that it was a graphic novel series by Garth Ennis, the same guy who did Preacher. Now, I need to find those comics at the library.

Yeah, I only watched the first few episodes of that. I liked it OK, but it wasn't as good as the comics.

Wu-Tang: An American Saga (the dramatized story about the formation and foundations of the Wu-Tang Clan) launches today on Hulu.
I saw the trailer and was ready to run through a wall to see it (I get I'm the target audience, but it looks really, really, really well done and even though it's created by the RZA and produced by Method Man doesn't look like it pulls too many punches about their history).

I loved it too. It's one of the shows that reels me in right away with over-the-top offensive humor and then develops into a show with meaningful, insightful messages. American Scandal (especially season 2) had the same strategy -- from poop jokes to an examination of how cell phone culture affects teens.

We signed up for a 30-day trial of Netflix because my wife wanted to watch a documentary for her class. So, I decided to try out Stranger Things, since I'd heard so much about it. I loved the pilot, so I ended up watching the whole first season in just a few days. I loved the mix of homages to movies like ET, The Goonies, Altered States, Carrie/Firestarter, Alien/Aliens, etc. Lot of fun. I understand the hype.
Now I've gotta watch the next two seasons as well.

Yeah, I think I also liked 3 more than 2.
Finished The Boys last night. There's a lot to like there, certainly enough to overlook some general weak spots, Homelander is fucking great, and I hope they get a boost in the budget in season 2 so we get more of the whizbang we saw in the finale. But...
Wasn't the tell that made Homelander turn on poor Elisabeth Shue sort of dumb? First, if they hadn't shown him react when she said "miscarriage" I don't think I would have given it a second thought. Not all that far off from "died while clawing out of his mother's body", and perhaps just a sensitive way of describing what happened?
And even if you disagree with that, then Shue and the former Vought scientist fucking up that detail, knowing that "what happened to my kid?" is the one question Homelander is sure to ask is an unbelievable level of incompetence.

The mall stuff was great. And the Steve/Robin/Dustin stuff was fun. The rest of it though....
Its funny, the GF and I both thought it felt 'rushed'...but then we checked and saw that it had the same number of episodes as the first season.

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is now the longest-running live action sitcom in history (well, tied with Ozzie and Harriet technically though it'll surpass it next year since there's a contractually obligated 15th season).

Learning this is the final season almost makes me want to cry. But have to remember this amazing show getting as many episodes as it did was a gift.
