Gotta start somewhere with this topic:

What amazes me is that the Dutch do not have their own word for dildos or vibrators.

I honestly thought the canal was wider and something like this couldn't occur.

I also have a complete misperception as to just how big container ships really are. I didn't think they were that huge.

They weren’t when the canal was built!

Going through the Panama Canal a few years ago was one of the highlights of my life. We were on one of the newer cruise ships so we even got to go through the Panamax locks.

At some point during quarantine, I got on a container ship kick and watched whatever I could find on them. This is a good starting point. There's way more out there:

When they go down into the belly is one of the craziest visuals I've ever seen.

I’d be an awesome Marine Casualty Specialist.

I’ve listened to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald hundreds of times.

Edmund Fitzgerald sang that ballad about the collision of the Gordon Lightfoot and the Cat Stevens.

My recollection of this line is:

This is like watching a doomed bobsled run in slow motion

There's needs to be an edit of the boat onto this video.

It's well established your wife is much cooler than the rest of ours. [no snark or sarcasm]

A little late in the game, but I watched a fairly nerdy YouTube episode that explained how this happened and it's actually pretty fascinating.

Very long story short, this ship is one of the largest models* and creates a special kind of wake/turbulence situation when in the canal that essentially sucked it over to the side. I had just thought the captain fucked up or the navigation equipment farted out.

(* - Ship is so large, it can't go through the Panama Canal.)

ETA - Not that hard to find:
