For the runner on 2nd base in extra innings, if that runner scores is it an inherited run or an earned run?

Totally unearned.

And I don't love the runner on second rule, but 7 game doubleheaders I have no real issue with.

Bryce Harper and the Phillies just pulled off the super common 9-6 force out at 2B.

I wanna see deGrom hit the open market just to see if someone pays him $50 million per. He has more RBI's for himself than runs allowed and he's on pace for 400 strikeouts.

Yeah but they're only a tiny bit underwater on run differential.

The Cubs have the worst run differential in the Majors going into today with the second-easiest schedule so far.

I'm thinking that dynasty might not materialize after all.
The Cubs scored 15 yesterday, after scoring 16 on Wednesday. Those 31 runs are more than a third of their season total.

D-Backs play a doubleheader in Atlanta today and give up 1 hit total. Gallen with the 1-hit shutout and Baumgarner with the no-hitter! (which doesn't count)

I'd like to see what was the change in team batting average for Atlanta from yesterday to today.

I'm bit more interested in baseball right now, because I'm hopeful that both the Giants and the A's might be competitive this season.

Yankees @ O's

Bot 10, tied 3-3:

Ramon Arias starts the inning as the runner on 2B.

Pat Valaika successfully bunts Arias over to 3rd: Sanchez to LeMahieu (covering 1B on the play).

So, tie game with the winning run on 3rd. Cedric Mullins is up.

Walk him and then walk Hays (due up next) to load the bases to try for a DP?

Or, just pitch to Cedric and let him lift a fly ball to CF and test Aaron Hicks' arm against the handpicked runner from the O's bench who is now on 3rd?

Man. I knew the Yankees were too one dimensional, but damn, it's worse than I thought.

Yeah, unless the matchups say otherwise, I don't get not walking into a force once you have a runner on 3B.

(And Mullins is not a matchup you avoid the force to keep in place.)

Of course, the # of runs (0) you scored in the top of the 10th plays into your math, but man...Boone sat there postgame and said he didn't even consider walking Mullins.

That just hurts my brain.

And Boston had one of those types of wins last night that a waxing Bob Costas might blather on about to explain why the upstart, 92 win BoSox are headed to the ALCS. That game where Pivetta stood toe-to-toe with deGrom, who was in the middle of a once in a generation season.

He'd also work in the fact that Garret Whitlock pitched two scoreless IP in relief, too.

Ugh. I need a drink.

You don't get to handpick the runner right? Isn't it the guy who made the last out in previous inning? Or can you pinch run?

Hell of a game yesterday by Taylor Trammell of the Mariners. Hits a solo HR for the only run of the game and ends it with a sliding grab in CF.

Yeah, one place I diverge from full analytics is in the L/R thing in lineup construction. If your 7th and 9th best hitters are your only lefties, they shouldn't hit 7th and 9th. Even ignoring relievers and handedness and the fact that they play in the best offensive stadium for lefties ... Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, Frazier, Voit when he comes back are all very similar in terms of how a righty would attack them. That has to help a starter establish a rhythm that would otherwise be broken by varierty in the lineup.

That’s a great point, and speaks to one of the commandments of lineup construction.
