Katie Nolan
Ok...I'll ask the question: Why is Katie Nolan considered such a hot commodity? On the Jimmy Traina podcast, they used to rave about her all the time. But to me, I've never heard her say/do anything interesting, and she's certainly not had much success on TV yet.
Are we really that desperate for an attractive woman who talks sports?

I thought her show was really pretty sharp on Fox, and she stepped well away from the usual Fox right wing noise to make some pretty strong social statements during some of her pieces. She's smart, it's a good hire from my perspective.

Agreed. She's a bit too much of a Masshole for me, but she's a great feminist sports talker.

Why is this attractive smart funny person in such high demand?!?!
No joke, she's really really good at whatever they threw at her. She could do John Oliver-style takedowns (if ESPN somehow felt like it) and it'd be amazing. She could talk over highlights and it'd be amazing. She could interview me at this nice quiet spot I like down on Library St and it wou...sorry.

She's had some pretty strong Masshole takes, including "the NHL is better than the NBA because NBA refs don't call traveling" and "LeBron didn't deserve the 2016 Finals MVP."

Gotta spend that money they saved by firing all those people somewhere and Katie Nolan wasn't taking up all of it.

And...scene.
Re: The WWLIS Thread
If you had under 1.5 for number of episodes before the ESPN/Barstool show got cancelled, you win! I gotta think this was due in large part to the fact that a lot of prominent ESPN employees were pissed about partnering with Barstool. In Sam Ponder's case, very understandably so.
Re: The WWLIS Thread
On one level you kinda have to feel back for Big Cat and PFTC because they're really not the issue with the Barstool "content".
On the other level they knew what the site was/is when they signed up so if they're getting tarred with the same brush they can't say didn't see it as a possibility.

Re: The WWLIS Thread
I wonder how much of this is executives think that people aren't willing to really look back at people's histories from as recent as a couple years ago while we have a president who has probably led to people pondering if the phrase "there's a tweet for everything" can be trademarked. Between @OldTakesExposed, the reporter at the center of the Cam Newton scandal being exposed for years-old racist tweets, it taking less than a couple hours after being drafted for Mitchell Trubisky's "I love to kiss tittiess" tweet from December 2011 to be exposed to a slightly wider audience, and even Boogie getting in on it...
You would think someone would tell these executives that maybe new talent should actually be clean before hiring them.
But, what the fuck do the rest of us know, anyway?

New rules for ESPN reporters, no breaking news via social media.

Gonna see how long this policy lasts when they start getting "scooped" by other outlets while they are vetting stories.
I am also hopeful for an eventual tweet by one of their news breakers tweeting to "turn on ESPN and watch the ticker for breaking news from me".

It's going to result in a lot of shitty small articles rushed to the website or ticker.

The contents of which 1,000 twitter users will cross post within seconds and instead of getting the news from Woj's twitter account, you'll get it through whoever else's and Woj will lose the intangible value that comes with breaking news.

Exactly my point.
There is an article on Awful Announcing about the policy, which includes some comparisons between the old policy and the new one, as well as some assurances that it will still be the same procedure of confirming before the reporter sends out the info.
Frankly, I don't believe they all have the central news desk (or whatever it's called) go through the process of confirming every story for every reporter. You don't spend a truckload of money bringing in Woj and his story-breaking ability and connections, then handcuff him behind a group of people who are not nearly as connected.

19,000 square foot facility opening in lower Manhattan next spring, which will host the new Mike Greenberg-Michelle Beadle-Jalen Rose morning show. Wonder how much they spent on the facility....

People mention the $14.5 million in annual salary to Greenberg-Beadle-Jalen for "Get Up", but no one mentions the brand-new production facility built in Manhattan.

Re: The WWLIS Thread
THis also is not a hot take, but give me the original Mike and Mike over Golic and Wingo. I think Trey Wingo is pretty bad. Talks over guests every segment, usually to get some terrible joke in. I'd prefer the two golics.
