Official Jeopardy thread

Seems like the Television thread should be for other stuff.

So, here's a question for you Jeopardy enthusiasts. This week is the first round of the Tournament of Champions. The top four scores of non-winners advance (along with winners). My question is - do the Thursday or Friday players see the earlier games and know what the final scores were? Because, if you are trying to score enough to advance, it seems like it would be an unfair advantage to see how previous games ended and to be able to bet accordingly in your Final Jeopardy wager.

During the first week of the tournament all players yet to play are sequestered in the green room.

Buzzy Cohen is crushing it as host.

Yeah, he is a good host. Nobody has been bad, but that last guy was milquetoast. I liked that show producer guy and Ken Jennings a lot, too

That tweet is from Mad Max Weiss from Baltimore Magazine. Very nice woman. Been in Baltimore forever.

I have no problem with this. I thought he did a good job. Really, the only host who I thought did a not-fine job was LeVar Burton.

Yeah, kind of lost in the snark is that Richards has a lifetime of game show experience and was almost named the new host of The Price Is Right instead of Drew Carey. It's not exactly like he's just some guy off the street. Besides, Jeopardy is less about the host and more about the players and the game anyway.

Finding the next host has been a bigger story than basically any game show contestant ever was.

I havent read any specific blowback yet but my guess is, and I would share this sentiment, that a lot of the guest hosts seemed pickable presumably because they’re known in one way or another for valuing knowledge and advancing the cause of learning and information. This is what fans probably loved most about Alex over the years.

This guy right now is a TV suit.

I guess the easiest way for an executive producer to avoid future discrimination lawsuits is to hire someone he won't discriminate against.

He also got in a lot of trouble when he played for the Kings.

I guess the visor was too off-putting?

I haven't watched it, tbh.

Ha ha. Nothing to do with looks or dress. He just wasn’t smooth. He had some pregnant pauses where he seemed unsure what to do, and he had to correct himself a couple times too.

Claire McNear, who would be a decent authority on this, with a really good read on the shit choice for Trebek's replacement...

Does anyone know, is Jeopardy’s viewership as woke/liberal as I’d assume? Because yeah, at some point someone in charge there has to realize they can’t afford to alienate a big part of their audience.

It definitely skews 50+, so I'm thinking the audience is not the protesting type.

Yup. Sounds like some level of suits high up in Sony are into showing they are boss and are happy to rub people's faces in it with this piece of shit.

It really is amazing how worked up people got over the hiring of a game show host.

Poorly made choice, but the fact that so many people got so angry about this speaks volumes about the state of our culture.

(Not meant as a jibe at you guys - just a general statement)

Yes, but in this case, it says a ton about Trebek as well. Those are some really big shoes to fill.

Jeopardy is not really just a game show, right? It has transcended to become really more of a cultural touchstone.

Nothing like the hubris of "I'm so bad, I have to quit the job I hired myself for, but I will stay in the job where I did the hiring."

Interested to see if any potential hosts remove themselves from consideration because Richards stayed on as EP.
