We have a “great goals” thread. This kick would not go there.

Had planned on seeing Arsenal vs Inter and Everton vs MIllonarios (my childhood team) in Olando this weekend.. first two dropped out..
no matter.
2000 mile round trip (stop in MD to pick up my dad) from NJ to Orland. Saw a pretty good game, had a blast. Colombians & Colombianas everywhere. Old man was happy. The boy enjoyed it even as he claimed every 30 minutes in the car that he was bored.

If youve done some something that kept both your father and your son happy at the same time, you’ve really succeeded.

Rangers' financial situation a few years ago really beat up the league that was not healthy to begin with. Seems like a few years ago Rangers and Celtic were places for USMNTers (Rangers still love Edu). Now Scotland is a place for folks who can't crack DC United's lineup.

Sorta splitting hairs here, but it's not FFP it's La Liga's salary cap. Still, fucking crazy, especially considering Citeh just spent $100m on Grealish. Gotta think this is good for the fighting Pruitts though.

I'd certainly take him at United, but I can't imagine him coming to the red side of Manchester given how close he is to the blue side.

I almost always hate the use of the term 10 man team. It is not like they played the whole game down a man and usually it is some point late in the 2nd half. Now this one was 45 minutes or so of playing down, but I am just not sure that tells the full story.

Yeah, circumstances vary wildly.

Like, if a team goes down and they're already up a goal? It's really not a huge deal to just drop another defender back and play a compact style and ride a game out. I think sometimes people think there's a huge advantage to being a man up and in soccer, it's just not that big of a deal.

So that is interesting. DC United had a similar fiasco last year. Ben Olsen's side subbed in a person not on the game day roster. They basically got a strange do-over. The sub was taken off the field (Actually sent to the lockeroom), DC got its substitution back, and they put fault on the officiating crew. I assumed DC would get fined and forfeit/penalized or something.

https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/substitu ... substitute

Also why would a coach have more sub cards they hand to the official for the game.

Subbing in a player not on the gameday roster - that's on the coach
Allowing too many subs - that's on the refs

Didn't an MLB team have the coach fuck up and write the wrong first name down on a lineup card and end up with a pitcher having to play outfield for an inning or something until he could be pinch hit for to avoid whatever penalty it was that would have been incurred? I'll research.

I think something like that has happened a couple of times in the past year or two. I guess there's a new automatic lineup submission process, and lineups are submitted way before the game, so if someone gets sick or whatever and you forget to update your submission, you can get fucked.

except that is exactly opposite of the impact and regulations...based on the two data points we have.

the other case we have is fielding an ineligible player or similar (two many foreigners on the field, too many over age players, etc).

Oh yeah, I was just going off what I think it should be. I don't know what the rules actually are.

I just had a flashback to the one year I played baseball as a kid. I was 6 or 7 and it was one of those leagues where it was t-ball for the first half and live pitching in the second half of the season. I sucked. I didn't know any other kids on the team and I got immensely bored and distracted when I was (rightfully) put in the outfield. Well, about halfway through the season, I finally got my first hit! I smacked a ball somewhere and it ended up being a triple. I was really excited until my coach told me I wasn't supposed to be batting. I didn't know that if you got pulled out of the field that you didn't get to bat the next inning. Never played again.

Now I regret missing the opportunity of complaining about "too many foreigners on the field" when coaching against racially diverse teams.
