I'll save my Oilers thoughts for the offseason thread. Do we have an offseason thread? No? Great. Let's talk about something else.
We now have an offseason thread!
But it's really to say that Seattle has a coach! Dave Hasktol. Perhaps a bit underwhelming?
Kung Fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene..
Yeah, that's not at all the direction I was expecting Seattle to go in. Maybe's he's deep analytics but that was never the impression I got when he was with the Flyers.

I love that every version of the Eichel trade is either "lottery pick + a top 20 NHL prospect" or "Sabres just want out of his salary, they're going to do the O'Reilly trade again". Absolutely nothing in between.

The more I think about it the less I think Buffalo gets. Eichel's injury is such a wild card. I get that it only takes one team to bite, and that he's been great, but how does Anaheim give up Zegras and #3 given the unknowns?
Until everything is less insane, I'm mixing weed with wine.
Ha, that's the best example of the "I don't think Buffalo gets either half, let alone both" proposals I've seen. Just insane. Same with the Blackhawks giving their first + Dach or any other iteration.
Huge cap hit plus flat cap plus cash flow issues plus neck injury(!) plus known discontent ... I don't see the leverage even if there are a half dozen teams fishing around.

I think the hiring of Hakstol indicates Seattle will go youth-first in the expansion draft. Before his short stint with the Flyers, he was a longtime, very successful coach in juniors and at the university of North Dakota.

You might be right. It’s gonna be interesting for sure. Seattle’s coming into such a shitty division they might consider going a mix of youth and experience because if they get lucky enough might be able to finish 3rd/4th in the Pacific and get fans invested immediately in a playoff series.
I’ll grant that’s probably a best case scenario though. VGK is class of division, the Cali teams are between rebuilding/bad and the Canadian teams are huge question marks.
If you read too much Twitter rumoring this could be fireworks related at a team function or atleast with others in the CBJ org.
According the The Athletic, there was a fireworks malfunction while he was in a hot tub. "The deceased, while exiting the hot tub, slipped and fell and hit his head on the concrete,” said Novi police Lt. Jason Meier.
How do you all get your death notices since I left?
My wife and I were talking about that... We used to go down to South Carolina every year for our beach vacation. You can buy INCREDIBLE fireworks off the shelf down there. And it USED to be completely legal on the beaches down there.
Anyways, I was always careful (built a pit so they can't get knocked over or blown over, dug the mortar tube in very securely in the sand), but, still... Always had an edge of being dangerous.
Hearing this news makes you rethink some choices...
You can lead a horse to fish, but you can't fish out a horse.
Professional grade fireworks in the hands of amateurs is fucking stupid. The people who threw the party where those fireworks were detonated should be criminally liable for his death.
The nine-shot firework being used was legal in Michigan, and the person operating it at the time Kivlenieks was struck was in compliance with state laws and allegedly had been "training with the homeowner for the summer and was staying there," Meier said.
Between that quote and the rumor of a deleted twitter pic of a fireworks stash, it sure sounds like its going to be Merzlikins who set it off.

It's all fun and games until the rednecks fifty feet away don't do this and you're trying to protect a six year old from flaming projectiles.
Better to watch from the balcony anyway.
You know what you need? A lyrical sucker punch to the face.
