Yeah, all he does is just act as a sort of outsourced PR for the league. Do people confuse that with journalism?

Just add Woj and Shams and probably Passan and anyone else ESPN uses as their "news breaker for a specific sports league".

At the same time, most people don't know the difference between a journalist and a glorified PR person.

I don’t pearl clutch about those guys. The leagues prefer to announce injuries, coaching changes, etc. through a a guy in a shiny suit rather than a press release. The networks are happy to employ them because it brings attention to them. Good for them for going out and getting that gig. Just weird that anyone would confuse that with journalism.

The gray area is caused by someone like Schefter sitting in on a studio show like "Sportscenter" or "NFL Live" and being introduced as "an insider" chiming in with his report of "breaking news" combined with many/most people not being able to discern the difference between actual sourced reporting and Schefter announcing that some player will be downgraded to "out" on tomorrow's injury report because some executive texted him that info and the team isn't interested in the gamesmanship angle of acting like their second WR who couldn't walk off the field under his own power last Sunday is going to be good to go in four days.

If everything is fully leaked, it would be interesting to find the differences between the story he sent Allen and the story that was eventually published.

Today's semi-interesting factoid of the day is that the last time the Lions defeated the Bengals at home was...in 1970...in the first game ever between the two teams. Last time the Lions defeated the Bengals anywhere was 1992.

I don't like having conspiracy theory thoughts, but...

Monday night, the NFL sacrifices Gruden, one of the most public faces of the league who is not protected by the players union, due to his emails from the Washington legal case (when he wasn't a team employee).

Wednesday, the NFL throws a very prominent NFL media member under the bus, also for his email discovered in the Washington legal case. Certainly could be seen as a veiled threat to other media members who cover the league.

Friday late afternoon, the NFL announces their "nothing else to see in the 650,000 emails" news dump.

....and the entire thing started because of an investigation into Washington's abhorrent treatment of cheerleaders. It couldn't be just Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden involved in that. That's a fuckton of emails.

I don't think this was an NFL leak but rather part of Snyder's court filing over the summer and was discovered via that filing post-Gruden emails.

50 years ago tomorrow, an NFL player died on the field -- the only time in the league's history that's ever happened. It was a Detroit Lion, of course.

Got into it with a friend in a "that's just his job" versus "he chooses to do that job" morality debate yesterday. Naturally, I won, keeping my argument win percentage at a perfect 100%.

Chandler Jones is dealing with some serious shit right now and I hope he gets help, yet is there any coach worse in the NFL to have in terms of people skills to have to work with a problem like this than McDaniels?

It's impressive how little McDaniel's learned from his few years burning down the Broncos.
