NCAA Football 2021 Thread

Looks like we only had the offseason thread and since the season starts today...

Anyway, Scott Frost might not even make it to September if the Huskers lose to Illinois today. There's blood in the water in Lincoln!

The not know the down was somewhat understandable, if it's the one I'm thinking of at the end of the game.

You sure couldn’t tell that Nebraska was a team that got into trouble for practicing too much.

I enjoyed how the scoop and score was originally credited to Nebraska on the telecast, then they had to take down the graphic to fix it. Guess it's training camp time in the TV truck, too.

Not that Syracuse has been great under Dino Babers, but a not-insignificant portion of a message board wanted Frost when he ended up taking the UCF job.

The best story of the weekend was easily the fake high school that lied it’s way into an ESPN game against IMG Academy.

Here’s the latest story about it. This could go in the Ohio/Florida thread really. Fuckin’ Ohio.

UCF 35, Boise State 31.

USF 0, NC State 45.

A part of my sports fandom died when Jim Leavitt lied about smacking a player.

They were #2 in the country back in '07 after they destroyed UCF mid-season. Oof.

Check out the highlights/box score from Ferris St game Jared Bernhardt contributed in his first college football game. 96 yards passing 2 tds, 120 yards rushing on 12 attempts 4 tds. He left Maryland after finishing his lacrosse career as the equivalent of the Heisman winner.

His dad was a big football coach and he originally was planning on going to Navy as their option QB before picking lax.

Victories at #17 Auburn and at home vs #5 West Virginia. George Selvie collapsing the pocket to the tune of 14.5 sacks, 31.5 tackles for loss and 3 forced fumbles. The speedy downfield wideouts and a two-headed rushing attack with Matt Grothe (QB) and Mike Ford.

It was brewing to be the perfect season, but then they lost to Rutgers after reaching #2, and then lost two more games.

Granted, it won't be the biggest upset of the weekend and probably wasn't the biggest of the night (UC-Davis over Tulsa?), but not too bad.

South Dakota State definitely could and maybe even should beat Colorado State tonight.

South Dakota State might be best team in FCS. Unless you're a top 25 team, not much shame losing to those guys.

The Georgia Clemson game is the Wisconsin penn state game all over. But I don’t know if it’s offensive incompetence or defensive dominance. Only score so far is a defensive Td.

I know it’s not a big deal in the grand scheme, but after 2020 it was nice to roll a rollable team.

Major bummer losing Ronnie Bell, M’s clear #1 WR. Got hurt at the tail end of a long punt return.

All in all, a pretty interesting day in college football. Lots of teams in top conferences losing non-conference games or winning unimpressively.

And then there is Washington, which lost at home to a FCS team in what is being called 'The Worst Loss in program history'.

Yeah, that one's pretty bad. Some of the others were at least really good FCS teams.

Montana’s perennially a pretty good FCS team but yeah you gotta be able to score more than 7 points on an FCS team. I wonder how much the FCS playing their season in the spring helped them this week.

this comeback from FSU has been quite something. And I am now caught up on the comeback for the FSU qb who came in late in the game. That's quite a story.
