Would not have bet on Syndergaard taking a show-me contract just because I figured some team would be willing to give him a 1/2 starter deal.

It's a good deal for Syndergaard because he won't have to worry about adding October innings to his arm.

Not saying, just saying. (I'd probably rather the Tigers sign one of the cheaper FA options at SS, but it ain't my money, so....)

Great place.

It'd be hard not to root for the Tigers if he signs there. But my ideal non-Astro destination is the Bronx.

Buster Posey is rightfully praised and will probably get into the HOF on his first shot. I'm just curious why Thurman Munson doesn't seem to get the same treatment from the Veterans Committee. The most he ever topped out at was 15.5% on his first ballot.

I'm not sure Munson should be in, especially not relative to Posey, but I think the reason he got such a low percentage was the backlog on the ballot. Gibson made it in his first year (despite 64 dummies not voting for him) but Killebrew and Marichal didn't and Drysdale missed for the 7th(!) time. Overall, 12 guys who were on that ballot are in now (and maybe half are deserving).

That was Harold Baines's first ballot I think.

This isn’t irony or anything, but every year this day it reminds me how wild it is that two HOFs were born on November 21 in the small Pennsylvania town of Donora.

Rangers sign Semien and Seager. That's a 60 million per year middle infield.

Still likely better than a $43 million per year 38 year old starter?

(I really like the Gray signing too. Semien ... he's not young enough for 7 years.)

Orioles signed Rougned Odor. He’s still one of my favorite non-Orioles for one reason.

Hall of Famer Nolan Ryan has a Rangers cap on in his plaque!

Speaking of Nolan Ryan...I know he gets flak for being a compiler and walking a ton of people. Both are fair. But how much would you pay a guy now on Day one of a contract as a rookie that you knew would get you 200 innnings a year, one homerun every 18 innings, with at 3.19 ERA (112 ERA+) for 27 fucking years. I have to think that would be a pretty nice thing to count on for that period of time even if he did walk some people every game.

He'd take that back if he could. He was just being petty because he hated the old owner for not re-signing him.

If Nolan Ryan were to restart his career today, he'd be lucky to earn setup duties.

This seems a bit harsh, unless you're referring to what Giff is, in which case it's hilarious.

As of now, Phillies are one of eight teams yet to spend $1 in major-league free agency. The others: Diamondbacks, Reds, Guardians, Royals, Twins*, A's, Padres. (Twins spent $100m on Buxton extension.)

League business expected to freeze at 11:59 p.m.

I think the Yankees should be a negative on that list; they only qualify because they declined Joely Rodriguez's option and then resigned him for less.

Rich Hill comes full circle and signs with Sox. My brother used to play against him (and K) in high school. Kid hit a bomb onto the tennis courts in left. But yeah the heater played better in the bigs.

The rumors were moving the fences in LF back 30 feet and raising the height to 12 feet so...looking like something along those lines is underway.

This means me and 10,000 other dads can point to just in front of the warning track in LF and tell our kids "I sat right there to watch a game".

Maybe even 10 feet in front of the warning track. That's quite a move back of the fences.

"Speaking with reporters Thursday morning, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred announced the league will be adopting a universal designated hitter rule. The days of pitchers batting in professional baseball are likely over."

WTF. DH is an absurdity. I know it's hard to undo but why expand. Particularly after the best performance by a pitcher at the plate in 60 years?
