Roethlisberger might be the most improved player in terms of how much better he looks in Fox comic book view vs real life. He has a little smile and a twinkle in his eye. Arms are bulging, twice the size of comic book Kirk Cousins.

Kickers are so bad now because the kids in the mid-2000s who would have become good kickers chose another sport due to CTE. Discuss.

Yeah. I'm old enough to remember when a guy making a 50 yard field goal was a fairly big deal.

Punting is similar. Guys like Ray Guy were seen as thunder legs. His gross average was 42.4 and his net average was 33.8. Nowadays, just about every single punter averages better than he did.

I think we reached peak kicking about 4-5 years ago, when it felt like every team had a guy banging 55 yarders all the time. All of the external conditions affecting kicking have been constantly improving: more indoor games, more turf fields, special balls, better training, more professionalism in youth development, and it goes on. So it’s no surprise that numbers have gone up over a 20 year frame. At some point it will start going down, and I say it’s now.

Also, you should know by now never to take one of my posts at face value. This is not about kickers. It’s just easier to see declines in kicking than it is in, say, offensive guard play.

oh i know -- and I was going to point out in that post that I think we're at the peak of kicking. I'm not sure it's gonna get any better (or how it can get better) unless they clone Justin Tucker

Man, Kirk Cousins is extremely frustrating to watch. So many passes are to random areas of the turf where there's nobody. Or he throws into coverage. Or he overthrows needlessly.

I don't like that.

Chase Claypool made a great catch on 4th and 1 to continue the drive. The Steelers have no time outs and they are in the hurry up. Dude has to flex and signal 1st down after he gets tackled instead of getting the referee the ball. They lost several seconds. That was a bonehead move.

Overall, that game got exciting because Zimmer and Cousins are fucking dumb.

Edit

It was actually a bit more than several.

Edit 2.

Bruh.

Tucker's got job security to age 50.

I do wonder if we'll see a hiccup in kicking stats now that more coaches go for it on 4th down. I guess it matters where they go for it. If it's in the green zone then you'll have fewer long FGs and better averages. If it's in the red zone then the numbers go down.

I said the same thing. One of my favorite college players.

Also can't believe literally everyone didn't see this coming. Makes you wonder how some of these guys like Shad Khan made so much money. The ones who inherited it like Mark Davis, I get them being stupid. The guys who had to work for it -- that puzzles me a lot more.

They were smart in regular business. Sports are not that. A better comparison to a business magnate would be someone working their way up through football (playing, coaching, front office) owning a team.

These Brady runs are kinda inspiring, but he’s going to get hurt doing this. They don’t need this game that badly.

I’m impressed that the Bills are finishing well coming off of a short week in the Florida shitmidity. This is pretty encouraging for them.

Bengals just got screwed on a fumble recovery with less than a minute remaining. I don’t give a fuck what Gene Steratore says.

The Bengals and 49ers in a pitched battle and the Bills needing a field goal in Tampa. Giving off some serious Bush 41 era vibes

Nice to hear from a neutral.

Zac Taylor really owns this loss otherwise. Shackles burrow until too late. Dumb mistakes and bad play calling.

The officiating at the end of that game was horrendous. Diggs was grabbed twice (on third in regulation and on third in OT) and should've been easy holding penalties at a minimum. Then Evans pulls a defender on top of himself and get a DPI in OT because... well, I guess because he's teammates with Brady and Diggs isn't. I don't know. It's just so uneven.
