The OFFICIAL 2022 NFL Offseason Thread
Season is over for one team, so we're underway!
That puts a talented defensive coach on the market.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2022 NFL Offseason Thread
I’m pretty sure a decent QB audibles out of the play that caused Melvin Gordon to fumble. I mean, they were winning, 21-20 and at the Chiefs’ 9 yard line midway through the 4th. Had they scored a TD there and subsequently held on to win, might Fangio have kept his job? Probably not, but the Broncos looked like they were playing for their coach’s job yesterday (up until that play, that is).

nah, it's a potential TD if Fant and/or Albert O block Ingram. it's a designed read/cutback run to the left and the hole was opened perfectly between the center and left guard. watch the replay from behind the play

Very curious, for reasons that can be described as nostalgic, how much of this can be dumped on Shurmur (who is also available!)

Thanks. the outside TE looking to engage a defender in the flat rather than even chip Bolton. If Harbaugh ends up backing out of the Raiders job they should absolutely interview Flores.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2022 NFL Offseason Thread
Last time they hired a dude named Flores it worked out OK.
Still, I don't get all the Flores love. Dolphins lucked into a long winning streak against an uninspiring list of opponents, otherwise, he's been mediocre at best. You can argue he deserved a fourth year and I'll buy that, but it's not exactly like he's set the world on fire either. No idea what's actually going on behind the scenes in Miami. They absolutely have an impatient owner at a minimum.

Yeah, absolutely no good wins other than the Patriots. Lost to the Jags and Falcons. Got smoked multiple times. On the other hand, they have like 5 good players and I'm definitely not counting Tua. Things could be a LOT worse. I'm guessing he just didn't get along with the right people.

Give him a decent QB like Tannehill, and they make the playoffs. Flores won't be unemployed for long.brian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:57 am Last time they hired a dude named Flores it worked out OK.

I'm going to laugh when Watson ends up netting nothing much because no one wants to deal with his issues. I've thought all along this talk of three 1sts for him has been ridiculous.

Pace out the door with Nagy.
Bears have hired one head coach who had previous NFL head coaching experience, so... we'll see. New GM will allegedly report directly to the owners... who are clueless.
It very likely won't get any better, but at least there is a hint of optimism now because they took the first step.

Poor/mediocrely coached teams tend to not go on winning streaks. I think the issue here is an absentee owner looking to make a splash, but somehow comes out looking like a fool.brian wrote: ↑Mon Jan 10, 2022 9:57 am Last time they hired a dude named Flores it worked out OK.

Just to put a final nail in this story, huge UM donor/alum and Dolphin owner Ross explicitly stated "I'm not going to be the one to take Harbaugh from M" in a press conference (or teleconference or zoom or whatever) today.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2022 NFL Offseason Thread
Yeah, would be stupid for Harbaugh to not leverage the possibility of a move to get a better deal. That's good business. Whether he would call Michigan's bluff if they balk at the terms? That's another story.

It’s pretty LOL to think that the owner of an NFL football team wouldn’t hire away the HC from his alma mater if said coach would improve his NFL franchise’s chances.
Does he think this makes him look smart? Is noble the angle he’s looking for?

I think he honestly identifies more as a "Michigan superdonor" than "NFL team owner" to tell you the truth. His name is on the UM business school for Christsakes. I think he's given something like close to half a billion over his life.

Yeah, what bri said...
And it's, for better or worse, the whole mantra from alums that drone on about The Michigan Way or being a Michigan Man and all that nonsense.
People outside of that don't really understand the cultish mentality that is built up. Same type of vibe I've been droning on about for 7 years as to why Harbaugh isn't going anywhere.
It's one thing to attend the school as a young adult for 4 years. It's an entirely different psychosis when you grow up there. You are brainwashed at a very early age. I could play Hail to the Victors on piano by the age of 6. (easy as fuck song, btw.)

Anyway, if Ross doesn’t want to be that guy, but being that guy would make the team you own better, would that not be an indictment of his acumen?

Seriously though - Ross saying he doesn’t want to be the guy who takes Harbaugh from Michigan has got to be a kick in the jimmy for Dolphins’ fans, cuz chances are real that some other team will.

Bears announced that Bill Polian will be leading a five-person group in charge of hiring the next coach. They farmed the job out to Ernie Accorsi when they hired Ryan Pace, which got them John Fox, so I have lots of confidence in how this will turn out.

ESPN and NFL Network reporting that the Bears have put in requests to interview Leslie Frazier, Todd Bowles, Byron Leftwich, Brian Daboll, and Nathaniel Hackett for their coaching vacancy.
Also on the hiring committee for the Bears are their director of player engagement and senior vice president of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Of course, there's this...
