I think that if the Hawks win, it'll be my 11th championship as a fan (thanks, Michael).

This includes an NASL title in 1982 and MLS in 2009.

Just curious how that stacks up. If there are any Yankees/Man U fans, they'd have a bunch.

Technically, three. But I only remember the 1990 Cincinnati Reds team, not the Big Red Machine days.

I have 3. 1983 O's and the 2000/2012 Ravens. I didnt go to UMD, so I can't count their NCAA title, but it was damn exciting. I don't count MISL titles for The Baltimore Blast.

Two, in three years. I could get used to this.

Raiders and Warriors were long ago, far away, and I never cared anywhere near as much. Never anywhere near as happy as 2010. So I don't count those four; one was in Los Angeles, for chrissakes.

Seven

1996 Gators FB
2006 Gators FB
2006 Gators BB
2007 Gators BB
2008 Gators FB
2002 Bucs
2004 Lightning

I've supported ManU since 1999, but I don't count those.
The Rowdies won the NASL last year, but I'd given up my tickets, and I'd feel guilty counting that one too.

From not toddler times:

90 Reds
96 98 12 Kentucky Wildcats

and really not much else I guess. Horses don't count eh? If so I could throw in a few more...

As a lakers/dodgers fan born in the late seventies, I have seen my teams win a lot.

Lakers have 10 championships and 14 finals appearances. Dodgers have 2 championships, but none since 1998.

I also root for the Vikings though, so I definitely know the agony of defeat.

I have no recall of the Pirates in the 1979 WS. I can remember being put to bed the evening of Super Bowl XIV, so I'm counting that one. Add that to the two most recent SB wins for the Steelers and the three cups for the Pens, and I'm at 6.

Mark me down for bensell's list exactly. Like Chedda, I won't count my Man U titles since 2002. Doesn't mean I didn't enjoy them, though!

Two - '94 and '95 Houston Rockets.

I want to count '05's UT championship, but I didn't go to school there I had attended all home games for the previous eight seasons though when they one and I was pretty fucking stoked when VY ran in that TD. Don't want to count Comets, so I won't. Dynamo would be nice to count, but I'm an uber-casual fan, so I won't.

Having lived in far too many places (and I'm moving again in a few days), I never really had one home team. This is a difficult question.

Hockey:
Cape Breton Oilers. Calder Cups: 1
Penguins. Stanley Cups: 3

Baseball:
This is tough because I love my Bay Area teams. And the Dodgers. But I won't count them. I will count the Jays because, well, I've seen just about every Jays game. So . . . Jays: 2

Football: I love the NFL and CFL but don't have a personal team. I used to follow the Patriots. But, realistically, this is a zero.

College: Well, I went to Cal so . . . nothing. Although they won the NIT in '99. Hey, Sean Lampley! So, yeah, I got nothing here.

Basketball: I got nothing here II, the sequel. Although I'd wager I watch/follow pro and college hoops as much as anyone here. Shirley, surely, has me beat on college ball.

Soccer: Ipswich Town won the UEFA Cup once (1981). Can I count that? No.

Olympic hockey, national team sports: We're not counting that, right.

So my answer is a tenuous 6. Cape Breton in 1993, Jays in 1992 and 1993, Penguins in 1991, 1992, 2009.

1992-1993 was a pretty good stretch. Wonder what the hell I was doing at the time. A lot of acting, I think.

I do. It hurt.
I bet a hundred dollars on that Series. And it was a brilliant series. I bet on the Pirates. A hundred bucks was, for me at the time, fourteen years-old, a really big amount of money. When the Orioles were up 3 games to 1, the guy I bet with was trash-talking me about how he was going spend my hundred bucks and what a chump I was. So I a dared him to double it; make it two hundred. He said yes immediately. That worked out well.

Even better. I was kind of bragging about this to my Dad and R.B. Cameron (then president of the Sydney Steel Corporation). My Dad was mortified that I bet on anything. Cameron reaches into a pocket in his suit coat and says "Young man". (He always called me young man) "Why did you wager on the Pirates?" Now, I was nervous, he was an imposing figure. So I managed to answer "Their relief pitching, their bullpen." He smiled and handed me a roll of 25 silver dollars, justlikethat. And says, "That's why I bet on them, too, And this is what I won. You take it, young man."

I still have them.

Scottish dead poets society, I suppose. He was named Robert Burns Cameron. My father named me after Sir Walter Scott.

Great thread, until I think about my teams and their lack of trophies...

1 real one for me, and that was 1986. Fuck, my teams suck. (Mets, BTW).

I remember watching the Islanders win their final cup, but I was 6 yo, and didn't really understand why they were dumping Budweiser all over each other. I watched the Isles that year, but more for inspiration as I shot a soft puck into the laundry basket for a couple hours.

Jets? They won their first ever division title in 1998, can I count that?

Knicks? No.

I have a League Championship and a couple FA Cups as an Arsenal fan, but they feel like they shouldn't count for some reason, even though they are by far my #1 team. After 8 trophyless seasons, I think I'd count the next one. Hell, I would have counted the Carling Cup FFS if they didn't choke it away to Birmingham.

My hometown Binghamton Senators took home the Calder Cup last year, but I don't count that one, as I don't keep up with them at all, and haven't been to a game since they had the Rangers in the mid 90s.

NFL - Chicago - 1
MLB - Detroit - 1
NBA - I was a Lakers fan, but since I got so tired of everyone in LA sucking their dicks around Kobe and Shaq's second title, I'm not counting any of them, even a few under Magic Johnson.
NHL - Detroit - 4
NCAAB - Syracuse - 1

No complaints here.

Steelers: 3 - Can only recall the Rams game of the 70s Super Bowls
Pirates: 1 - In 1979.
Penguins: 3 - Definitely all three of these
Terps: 1 - I was living in Pittsburgh (going to Pitt) when the Terps won it all and was disappointed that I wasn't in Baltimore where I lived before that year and after that year.

At 8, that's pretty lucky.

Can I count a championship from a school I didn't go to if I was in attendance for the winning game? If so, I'm counting the '02 CWS champion Longhorns. Also the day Daryl Kile died. That was quite the buzzkill to hear when we got back to the car to make our journey back to Austin.

Lets count:

NJ Devils - 3 (95,00,03)
Cowboys - 3 (92, 93, 95)
Phillies - 2 (80, 08)

So... 8

College ain't looking good, and basketball is a non-factor for me.

I would only get to count Manchester United's titles and the US Open Cup for Sporting KC last year. So one(ish)

Though I guess I'd get to count favorite driver titles in NASCAR. That last one was epic.

1987 IU basketball (grew up in a family full of IU fans)
1996 UF Football
1998 UF Women's Soccer (Yeah, not a major sport. But a few friends and I went to almost all the home games. And there was some freshman named Abby Wambach on the team.)
2006 UF Football
2006 UF Basketball
2006 St Louis Cardinals
2007 UF Basketball
2008 UF Football
2011 St Louis Cardinals

Alive, but don't remember 1982 Cardinals.
Lived in and rooted for the Diamondbacks in 2001. But not counting it (though I was at Game 7).

Wait a sec. All these college titles.

UCSB. 1978. NCAA Water Polo Champs. I was a student, went to most home games and all the playoff games. Goalie was my roommate the next year, a dear friend since age 12 until today. Had he won an Olympic gold, I'd count that (silver, bronze and nada for his three olympiads). That was a fun weekend; we tore several Long Beach bars the fuck up.

Shit, I'm pleased Brian Shaw got the Nuggets job, UCSB Class of '88.

If we're counting teams we were on, I won an adult soccer league a few years back, and in football when I was 12, we had a year where our team didn't get scored on until the super bowl, and won that game 21-7.

Baseball: Can barely remember 80, so 2 (but if you were at a clincher, does that count double?)

Basketball: I remember 83 well enough, but my first real Sixers memory was the Moses and the #1 overall trade.

Hockey: I was likely conceived after the 74 Cup, and I was 6 months old for the 75... but that doesn't really count.

NFL: You're joking, right?

CFB: Penn State was the closest, so I remember the legit 86, and the undefeated 94 (give it a half)

CBB: My alma mater is still waiting for their first title in any sport, but I did follow the 85 Nova from their first 8-9 game against Dayton... in Dayton, so 1/2? A full b/c I took grad courses there?

Futbol: 2 for Italy, if ethnicities count. The first year I followed Premier League was 03-04. I had just read Fever Pitch my last semester in Law School, and said "eh, fuck it. I'll root for Arsenal". So 3 there.

So between 7 and 9, depending.

Fever pitch, and getting off at the wrong tube station and wandering upon Highbury during my first visit to London. Plus they have a cannon as their logo--I found that very Raider-like.

Yes, that question has merit.

Newcastle is popular as well.

And, well, the running jest of Blackpool which actually turned into real support. Jest no more. Quite so. Very quite so. Heck, I've burned a dozen DVDs of Blackpool matches and mailed them to Swampers. So, yeah, we went a little crazy on that. Frankly, most of us bought kits. The tangerine is, well, suave.

I support Ipswich Town. My wife is a Manchester United supporter (she did an MBA at The University of Manchester, I forgive her, somewhat, as a Semi-Canuck that went to Cal) but we never speak of it. For good reason. Because, well, with the exception of Giggs and perhaps Alex, they can all just go straight to Hell.

Copa America - Colombia, 1
NFL - The Washington Football Team - 3

Many, many years ago (1991 I think), I was travelling through England and Scotland and spent a strange and wonderful couple of days in Blackpool. Wandered by the dump that was Bloomfield Road and bought a team coffee mug. Loved that mug, loved that town.

We had a great thread at one point where everyone explained their club soccer allegiance. For me, I tried to remain a neutral, but the beauty in Arsenal's game won me over. The exact moment I realized was Sylvinho's amazing strike in the 2000-2001 season to clinch a tie against Chelsea. My excitement when that went in made me realize Arsenal had become my team, despite trying to watch as a neutral. It also helped that Bergkamp was my favorite player since the 1994 World Cup, and I loved Henry in the 98 Cup.

The moment I realized I was in love. Look at the swerve on this rocket.
