350,000/3500 (Let's make this a Righteous Gemstones thread)
If my counting backward is correct, I earlier unknowingly created the 350,000th post in the history of Swamp 6.0(?). According to the main board index, this is the 3500th topic on the board.
Anyway, that Gemstones quote that giff highlighted was awesome. Not as good as the Judy/BJ Outback Steakhouse scene last season, but nothing is.

Forgot how good that was.
What's the best two-word excerpt from that monologue? "Snail trail" is what stuck with me but rewatching it I love the little "ham slices" detail.

The Eli scene where he is explaining to the kids why he had blood on his pants had me gasping from laughter.
The kids they cast for the throwback episode were perfect - the kid playing the young Jesse was beyond perfect.

Also, I will entertain discussions on why this is the best comedy going right now and also that there is no competition for that because it is so far out ahead at being the best.

I don't think anyone saw that explanation coming. When kid Jesse was on, I was thinking that is the best kid casting in a flashback scene ever. He had the facial expressions down, he looked like McBride, he had the attitude perfect. Kid Judy was really on point, too.tennbengal wrote: Thu Mar 03, 2022 9:51 am The Eli scene where he is explaining to the kids why he had blood on his pants had me gasping from laughter.

Unless its necessary to the reference, could someone please add the place value separator to 3,500. Its driving me insane this AM.

Based on all the glowing praise on here, I binged through 6 episodes of Righteous Gemstones (Season 1) today in my Covid Quarantine.
The Good? John Goodman, Walton Goggins
The Meh (for me anyways): I think Danny McBride is like Chris Elliot for me...a little bit goes a long way.

I compared him to Chris Elliott too, in that they both play the same character in everything they do, but they play it so well I always love it.DaveInSeattle wrote: Mon Mar 07, 2022 9:51 pm Based on all the glowing praise on here, I binged through 6 episodes of Righteous Gemstones (Season 1) today in my Covid Quarantine.

I’ve never been a huge McBride fan but this show seems like the perfect vehicle for his comedy and voice - enough other great and also over-the-top comic actors and characters that he blends in. It is ideal. Hell, he’s almost the straight man to Judy Gemstone’s character. Actress who has that part is brilliant.

I finished binging through this.
Still stand by my 'little McBride goes a long way', but yeah...this is a great vehicle for him. Walton Goggins is great, and Eric Andre was fantastic.
The scene with pulling the baby out of the outhouse by its umbilical cord...wow.
And I'm surprised there wasn't more uproar about this show from the Christian/Evangelical crowd. Doesn't paint them in the most flattering light.
And...Kelvin is gay, right? They just never come out and say it, right?

Did they need to??? Does a straight man take Keefe with him everywhere and have sleepovers? Or keep a troop of muscle men in his yard? I love that the entire family ignores his sexuality, it's like they accept him but can't acknowledge for the sake of the Church, which shows they are full of shit in their preaching.DaveInSeattle wrote: Thu Mar 10, 2022 10:43 am

Yeah, I know...but they didn't have a problem accusing Gideon of being gay, or Eli. Guess Kelvin couldn't be an evangelical preacher is he was 'out'...but the final scene with Keefe and him watching the young boys workout was super creepy. The Sybian wrote: Thu Mar 10, 2022 11:35 amDid they need to??? The opening scene of season 2 where Eli has convened the council of evangelical pastors to determine if they should cut the one pastor out due to his sex tape was understated brilliance. Particularly the woman pastor translating the spanish speaking pastor - "he's okay with the queers and the gays but not with the thruples" I think...
It's a great series on re-watch because you miss stuff on first pass.

So was 24 Shows Daily real or part of his fantasy?
And I watched the second Austin Powers movie last weekend and that’s quite a different look for Kristen Johnston vs her role this season.

When Kristen Johnson karate-chopped Judy in the throat I lost it. As did Kelvin and Jesse.

Was curious who Keefe was....Went to a high school right by my house and played D1 college lacrosse at the Virginia Military Institute (which makes that character even funnier to me). Based on his age, I am sure I officiated him in lacrosse.

Comedy Bang Bang can be hit or miss, but Tim Baltz (BJ) is nearly always great when he is on. And his characters are so different from BJ that is really highlights his talent.
