Jeeves rubs his bald head in oil - vinyl records

I was thinking of treating myself to a record player and some vinyl records. Some questions:

Any recommendations for players. Victorola.com seemed to have good options including multi function ones with Bluetooth etc.

Am I going to throw a lot of money away trying to buy vinyl because I'm following a trend? Are there cheap options besides scamming old people? I'm ok spending a lot when bands put out special record store day releases, but it would be nice to find some cheap options too.

I haven’t been able to find much affordable. The used book store has a section but the decent stuff is way overpriced and the rest is trash. Our library used to let you borrow vinyl but no longer. Bsf might have some tips.

I have a great 40 year-old Harman-Kardon setup I’m not using!

A lot can be written about this but for tables I'd look at the lower end of Rega and Pro-Ject brands, as well as the higher end of the Audio Technica line (LP120). Don't get sucked into bells and whistles – a table just spins the record and the stylus/head turns the vibrations into music. A well-crafted simple table is better than one that's bloated with functionality.

We’ve thought about it but never done it because (1) space and (2) it would become an obsession hobby but not in a good way. Too good speakers (or headphones) would probably save you a lot of money and time if you’re anywhere close to my mindset.

I have a Marley and it does have Bluetooth. I love it!

I have no idea how to post an image.....

I have a sizeable record collection and love to sit by the fireplace in the winter listening to them with adult beverage.

You can find lots of records at a reasonable price if your not hung up on album cover condition and so forth. I like listening to them. Yes having great covers is a bonus but i don't look at it like collecting sports cards where everything is about condition. If it isn't scratched up and plays well then I am happy. I haven't bought any new albums from current groups. I just focus on getting stuff from the 60's and 70's I love.

I think I have about 1,300 vinyl, about half of I will end of selling because I either don't listen to them or they where ones that came in a bulk purchase that I have no intention to listen to.

I make Sabo listen to them when he comes down.

Feel free to PM me.
