EPL 2022/2023

Post by DaveInSeattle »

Watching the community Shield....watching Haaland against VVD this season is gonna be fun. He's gonna eat other central defenders alive.

And Darwin Nunez is going to be a nice addition to Liverpool.

(of course, Haaland just missed a sitter)

Only caught the second half but it’s such a different look offense for City having a target in the middle again. Not sure better or worse, but definitely different.

(And I still think Jesus would have excelled as a wing or second striker with Haaland. Maybe that’ll be Alvarez’s role if Pep lets a young first year forward get time.)

Started with a longer post earlier but lost it so just want to say that watching the PL without a favorite team is a great experience.

Sure do hate seeing Jesus in a different jersey, especially one I think looks cool.

Lots of good seats available from that reverse angle behind the goal.

When Chelsea bought Pulisic only to bench him in a transparent attempt to hurt the US chances in 2022, they didn't count on an American takeover at Leeds.

Looks like Brenden Aaronson got some good reviews for his game in Leeds today. That’s encouraging.

Went over to my buddy's house to watch Leeds... Aaronson had a typical Aaronson game. IOW, he was all over the field on the press, sought the ball constantly, turned his defenders regularly, and slotted in a number of good passes.

The OG you see on the stat sheet would 100 percent have been an Aaronson goal if the defender hadn't banged it in himself. (Aaronson was sliding a half foot behind the defender and would've had the seem end result.)

That OG was the second goal and was started with a lovely ball from Tyler Adams to Klich (he broke through 2 lines of Wolves defenders) who then slotted Bamford out wide who then whipped in the cross that produced the goal. Tyler was pretty good today, but had a few bad turnovers. I think I'd give him a 5 and I'd give Aaronson an 8 today.

On the first goal, it was Aaronson being a pest in the opposition 18 that popped the ball out (eventually) to Rodrigo for a nearpost goal. (You guys know what I think of nearpost goals.)

On the managerial front, Leeds absolutely dominated the first 30-35 minutes or so, then things leveled off looking for HT. Out of the gate in the second, Wolves dominated about the first 15 minutes, then things got level, then Leeds scored and rode the game out. Wolves shifted their defensive alignment, completely taking away the right side of the field in the second, and it really bogged down Leeds. It took a little too long for Jesse to adjust, but he did and that resulted in increased turnovers and they grabbed back the momentum.

Finally, not sure what went down, but Jesse and the Wolves manager were basically saying Fuck You to each other, quite loudly, as they made their way off the field. Jesse is kind of annoying, constantly at the edge of his box, constantly yapping. I think he got under the other dude's skin and it boiled over at the end.

Granted, I only watched 15 minutes or so, but...

This is not a very good ManU team.

Think you can easily argue City doesn’t score on either of those two plays with last year’s team. Strong direct runs are fun.

I read a couple experts predicting he wouldn't pan out in the EPL. I can't fathom him not succeeding, especially on City. Star players who don't make it in the EPL are usually guys who can't deal with physical play. That's not going to impede Haaland.

Matthew Hoppe to Middlesbrough is official. That's a very good move for him, given the current state of Boro's forward class.
