Her job was essentially to be the normalizing face of British imperialism and colonization, so while her calming demeanor was great for them, not so much for like a long list of other countries.
Didn't Britain give up just about every one of its colonies during her reign?
I don't actually know, Steve. I read something to that effect once and it stuck with me but I could theoretically be in over my head here.
And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. - God
And apparently next weekend will be off as well for the funeral. I get wanting to show respect to the Queen and all, but a lot of travelling fans, both domestic and international, have already committed money to this weekend, so that really sucks for them. And the schedule for this season, already compressed due to winter WC, will be even more compressed.

They should go with Boxing Day double-headers!
60 minute games?
Shoot they could play 3 or 4 games a day 2 or 3 days in a row..I mean that works for the U-13 Northern VA Cup...and you know how important the parents and coaches thing that tournament is.
I am not a fan of the Royal family, but I do think the Queen was great. The rest of the adults (other than Princess Anne) appear to proper cunts or at least suffering from cuntitus. I would be more than happy to be living in a republic from Tuesday morning.
Oddly enough, the French and the Septics love the British Royal family (I am basing this upon the amount of media and paper media coverage/consumption of it). You fuckers had your chance, fucked it all up, and need to get your own...
It is easy enough to do, we've had Germans and Greeks leading the way for over 70 years!
Good post, Tom. I think the fascination with the British royals in some quarters of America is the same impulse that leads to the rise of strongman figures like Trump. Despite claims of love for democracy and a republic, many people seem to crave an authority figure person over top of them.

So we don't have a thread like "Things that still make you feel young" but this might be the first post. I went on wikipedia just now to see people invited to the funeral and they listed the extended family. One of them is some lesser royal by the name of Lady Davina, whose name I didn't recognize. I hover over, and see she was born in 1977, and my first thought was "I should look her up on google images to see if she's hot".
Rules dictate. Not bad. Reminiscent of January Jones:

ETA: Looking at more pics of her, she looks A LOT like the mother of a girl in my son's class.

I thought royalty in the US are the Kennedys.

I would sign off on this, especially in the direction that it's not about MAGA heads. My wife (and almost all of her liberal, suburban mom friends) were very much into the Kardashians and pretty much lifelong followers of the Royals. I can't stand the Kardashian shit, but can also be a big boy and leave the room and watch something else. (Thankfully, I think the Kardashian phase fizzled out 4 or 5 years ago.)
I don't really have some profound thing to say, other than a lot of American women have been brought up on the fantasy of royalty. Just look at Netflix, Hallmark, etc and how many variations they have on some American woman stumbling into some fake Euro country and becoming wrapped up in some castle intrigue.

I have to say that Disney has not helped with the whole fantasy of royalty thing.

Oh yeah, no doubt. Pretty much entirely built around the "prince/princess/castle" model.
