Probably not but most of my friends are Bruins fans.

It's okay to check your last 3 phone notifications by the way.
Not the last one though!

That one's good to go. Not to be confused with Archibald Moonlight Graham, of course.

I'm still mad that the NHL rigged the 2004 draft lottery. The Pens could have had Ovechkin. Instead, they had to settle for that Mulligan guy or whatever his name was.

Speaking of the 2004 Pens, Max, I have a story that I've been meaning to tell you. I was reading a reddit thread about can't-miss prospects who missed. Somebody brought up Rico Fata, a great skater who couldn't do much else. Another poster shared a line from a scout: 'That kid could get to the wrong place on the ice and do the wrong thing faster than anyone else in history.'

Fata was one of the many pieces that didn't really matter in the trade that brought Kovalev back home.

Kovalev came 'back home' to the Pens, too, in 2011. That was the year that all of their stars were injured. (It was the awful Crosby concussion year.) A friend used to go to a bar that offered 87¢ beers whenever Crosby scored. Then they changed it to 71¢ beers when Malkin scored. Then he got hurt. By the time the playoffs rolled around, they were offering 72¢ beers whenever Kovalev scored. Delicious Coors Lights were enjoyed several times that spring.

Fata ended up having a long career. Played in the NHL from '98-'99 thru '06-'07, then in various Euro leagues thru 2014.

Don't remind me of Fata, another failed Flames 1st round pick.

MAN that Rico Fata could skate :D

bapo! i love that you thought of me haha - yeah i saw him play for London back in... 1996? just cutting up that tiny rink, of course he was a can't miss prospect :P

(and hey the Sabres could just as easily have had that Sidney kid so <old man voice> don't you talk to me about unfair dammit!)

The Sharks can’t even tank properly. Went from first place to second place last night by winning.

§ Yeah, the lottery mention was a targeted dig because I know that you're still upset about 2005. And 'losing' the 2004 lottery and settling for a future MVP and scoring leader who would go on to win three Cups isn't a terrible result.

§ Here's another thing I've been meaning to mention. I've occasionally heard broadcasters talk about Leon Draisaitl's sticks, but I never looked into it until recently. His stick blade is about an inch longer than usual. (Most blades are 29cm or 30cm; Draisaitl's is 32cm.) Now that I know this, it's distracting. Like, I can't see anything else whenever he's on the ice. It's worse than the flashing board ads.

I found an interview from a few years ago. He said that whenever teammates use his sticks at practice, they look goofy. Yeah. This does look a little weird, right?

I remember the Pirates making a late charge in 2009 and missing out on Bryce Harper.

Not this year? Not yet? I like them in theory, but I haven't seen much of them, so I think I agree. Like, I know how I feel about Boston, Tampa, Toronto, and Carolina (before Svechnikov's injury), and it's hard for me to put New Jersey in that group. But they have the third-best record in the league, so maybe I'm just being stubborn.

Needs more goalieing, I think. If they can swing that, hoo boy, look the fuck out. As good as they are now, with Luke Hughes, Simon Nemec, et al. on the way?

Oh, man. I wasn't even thinking about Hughes 3.0 and Nemec when I made my earlier post. I just hope Dougie Hamilton doesn't corrupt them by taking them to museums.

Eh, not really. Two firsts plus the equivalent of Schneider (just based on draft position, obv Schneider has been up a while) for a guy the Devils can keep but the Rangers would be renting.

Yeah that was something! Not sure it wasn't tipped off the shot. The thing hit about 6 inches below the top of the glass, which I guess is what you need for that to happen.

Well, that optimism lasted a day. Lose to Blackhawks in regulation. Flames lost to the Blackhawks all 3 times this year.

Perry and Jeannot certainly have earned reputations and it was almost a high/low type thing that offensive linemen get penalized for, but it didn't seem intentional.

Yeah, I haven’t seen an angle yet where anything looked sketchy. I think the Perry hit was weird and knocked him off balance and then his arms got blocked by Jeannot’s body. Bad luck.
