It's such a silly, crapshoot way to do this tournament. It's great to win it, but with the flukiness of a series of one off games, it's hard to get too emotionally tied into it.

BU gets to be essentially the home team for their region, too, even though they aren’t the top seed. That also counts for something.

Of course. And I do this just about every year because MI finds ways to lose games they shouldn't... Or in the case of Denver, lay bare the old fogeyness of Mel Pearson by skating them off the rink in the FF semis.

My issue is really when they went away from having home regionals. I would also like another round of the playoffs, where they go with a double elimination or something more like what softball/baseball do, but just not as many teams. ALSO the two week gap between this round and the FF is annoying. I know why they do it, but it's enough time to lose track of things for the casual fan.

But, by far, the biggest bummer with this tournament is of the 4 regionals, 2 (but most usually 3) of the venues are less than half full. You go from what makes college hockey great (amazing venues and crowds/chants) to an empty barn with a lot of the energy sapped out.

I get that coaches think this gives too much of an edge to the home teams, however... Those 4 seeds earned that advantage AND suck it up coaches. If you are one of the top 16 teams in the country, you've almost certainly had to go into hostile environments to get results. You come out of that weekend with a spot in the neutral site Frozen Four, you've earned it.

4/5 star review:
We ordered sandwiches for lunch. The turkey sandwich was very good with plenty of meat. However, the ham sandwich had only one piece of ham. This is a very good place to eat with large portions and I do think the chef made a mistake. I should have questioned the issue but I didn’t think to. The chefs here are all very nice and Im sure this was just a mistake. He did give us a home made cookie on the way out. The sandwiches are about 6.00 each with fries or chips. There is seating outside on the roof for a really unique experience.

I'm no history buff or stat-head, but I'd be pretty surprised if another version of this tournament saw this many blowouts in the first round. WTF is going on?

The B1G is gnarly at this point.

MI is something like 1-7 in semis now... over the last 25 years, I think?

I love following that team, but jeez louise do the suck in the Frozen Four. I was at FF game in Cincinnati 96 and they won it again in 98. Since then it has been one stinker after another.

yeah i was at that '98 one :(

(a 4 year period where BC lost i think 3 final4s in a row then almost blew the 4th in spectacular fashion, but ended up winning in OT vs ND. was at that one too and lost my mind)

1) Here's an interesting trip down memory lane: https://www.collegehockeynews.com/news/ ... p-25th.php

I didn't realized any of that was happening.

2) Fun story - I was in MI's radio broadcast booth because my buddy (that now is the pbp guy for MI football) was the "sideline reporter." He got me in as an "engineer" and my only job was to sit there and keep my mouth shut. I yelped at one point when MI scored and got some serious glaring from the broadcast team.

My buddy pulled me down with him after the game to help carry his equipment and we went on the ice and got sound. Probably the coolest sporting event of my life.

very cool story!

also Jack Parker lost so everything worked out perfectly.

I "worked" the 1998 finals in the press box as well; had to do nothing but shut my yap which was tough - essentially a home game final for BC and they led until late in the 3rd and lost in OT. Nobody told me I couldn't fall to my knees in despair lol

ha no way - i remember that one. my cousin was a St Lawrence grad so we were rooting for them.

Robb Stauber was great in some early NES video game - maybe the Gretzky hockey one. I think that was his peak :D
