2023 NBA Playoffs

Will the Lakers finish be exposed as a dead-cat bounce?

Will the TimberWolves stop punching each other/walls?

Will Trae Young create a Georgia Vs. the World mentality?

Will Jimmy Butler post himself shooting jumpers in an empty gym at 4:30 am on the 'Gram?

Will the Bulls, Raps, Thunder, and Pelicans make the majority of America be like "wait, who are these guys?"

And that's just the play-in tournament.

All those storylines and the only thing that drums up the faintest interest is if the Thunder can climb up from #10 in the West. Just OKC and seven teams I have zero interest in watching.

I sure wouldn't want to play the Lakers right now.

Granted, I'm a 46 year old man with little to no basketball ability. I think the other teams could take me, too.

That reminds me of a fun thought experiment I used to think about. At what ages could you beat superstars in a one-on-one game?

For example, I'm pretty sure I could beat 5 year old LeBron one-on-one. 12 or 13 I'm pretty sure his speed would get around me on D. 10 year old LeBron I'm not sure.

On the other end of the spectrum, are there any HoFers I could take now? Bob Pettit is 90, but he's also 6' 9". I'm pretty sure I could take a 95 year old Bob Cousy right now; he was only 6' 1" when he played, and he's probably down to my height of 5' 10" now.

I have no doubt the best 10 year old in the country right now would absolutely whip the shit out of me one-on-one.

The 10 year old next door is pretty good. Pretty sure he’d kill me. Probably his 8 year-old brother, too. Kids on our street are out shooting baskets every day.

These teams (Lakers, T-Wolves) are both awful.

But it was a fun 4th Q and OT! I've watched enough SEC basketball that I don't notice bad shooting anymore.

I know they’re just not very good to begin with but teams that lose play-in games at home should be relegated.

I've pretty much avoided the Raptors this season but watched the second half last night. My first thought was that the Bulls are absolutely horrible. They then overturned a 19 point deficit to win.

Just awful stuff.

18 for 36 from the line for the Raptors. Thanks for Demar Derozan's daughter. I mean...she's fantastic. The supercut if you have not seen clips...

I know three of the four games to this point have been competitive/interesting, but would the play-in be better by tweaking the process a little bit? I'm thinking something like a team finishing 7th/8th/9th by four games above the team in the spot immediately behind them gets out of participating in the play-in, at least in some capacity.

That margin has happened in each of the first two years with the #10 team in the West (six games behind #9 in 2020-21 and eight games in 2021-22). In this case, go straight to 8-seed plays 9-seed for the 8-spot, winner plays 7-seed for the 7-spot.

If the #7 team is four (or more) games up on the #8 team, they automatically lock the 7-seed. #9 plays #10, winner plays #8.

If #8 is four (or more) games up on the #9 team, 7 and 8 play for the 7-seed. Combine, as needed.

I know it's a bad year for asking this question with both 10-seeds winning their first game, but they both were good enough to make the play-in under this change scenario.

I don't recommend wagering on the Bucks to win the title.

The Dr. Pimple Popper commercials. Because of the whole WB/Discovery merger - TNT in that umbrella as is TLC I believe.

I didn't see it, but went for another low-hanging fruit joke.

But, yeah, Discovery Warner Brothers is making significant cross-pollination with their advertising.

I don't understand why so many people in the media are surprised Draymond Green got suspended for a game. I understand the "he was ejected, that;'s the usual/good enough" part, but all the discussion completely ignored the way he acted toward the fans afterward, as well as that the league needs to set an example. If they allowed that to happen, where do they draw the line and deal with potential similar situations?

It is long overdue. I'm not sure there's a player in NBA history who has gotten away with more, especially with regards to verbally abusing refs.

And…the commissioner was literally in attendance. I was surprised he wasn’t suspended for multiple games actually.

I'd love to see a John Oliver/Seth Meyers style breakdown of Draymond's bullshit over the years and the non-punishments he received compared to others. Even better if it called out media members all the meanwhile.
