I think Trump's VP pick is gonna be either Kari Lake (Crackpot Senate loser from AZ), Kristi Noem (Governor, SD, also a nut), or as a longshot, Nancy Mace (Rep out of South Carolina, extremely kooky).

Elise Stefanik thinks she's got a chance, but she's not conventionally "hot" enough for Trump to share a ticket with.

Trump picked Pence to appeal to the evangelicals...

Do any of these women sufficiently expand his base? Or is their subservience to MAGA "ideals" enough?

And all the evangelicals are now completely in thrall to him (see the "God Made Trump" ad that's floating around).

Trump doesn't think his base needs to be expanded anymore. He'll want some eye candy to be seen with. Just look as his hack lawyer Alina Habba...(IANAL but even I know that you have to stand up to talk to the Judge)...

I don't get the American political system. So DeSantis spends millions upon millions, takes part in a bunch of debates and lasts for one caucus where 99.999% of people don't actually cast a ballot. So every supporter that planned to vote for him in the other 49 states can no longer do so.

They've known they were dead for months and the only hope was that the 0.001% in Iowa made him look more viable than he is and changed some minds.

The fact that the first 2 primaries, which often weed out the bulk of those running, are about 90 percent white says a lot about the antiquated nature of the process.

No idea why DeSantis came out this term against both Trump and Biden when 2028 is wide open. Read his own press clipping, sank his entire future.

My only thought is he wanted to run in case Trump's voters cared that he was indicted in four matters on 91 felonies. Turns out, that made him more electable. DeSantis clearly never tried to run against Trump, he tried to be Trump and wouldn't attack. He wasn't setting himself up for VP or another appointment, as Trump has been attacking him for months now. Maybe getting name recognition for 2028? Most likely, the guy has a huge ego and underestimated his horrendous personality and how off-putting he is. The more he spoke, the less popular he became. Funny how much the Dem establishment and LW media feared him when he first hit the scene.

I think its most likely about a half dozen people who have or have control of huge amounts of money decided this dipshit should run, just like they could have picked any of 100 other people. Its not like DeSantis rose to the top on merit or anything.

Good. I hope he gets the nomination. His candidates have been getting beat these last three cycles. He’s becoming the kiss of death for candidates. He’s only gotten dumber and weaker, and while his base will vote for him, it won’t be enough that’ll swing anything. And maybe, just maybe, the establishment GOP will finally put his ass and his cronies out to pasture when they get their asses kicked again.

I think I've been pretty firmly in this camp for many years now.

The area where I am truly curious is about "the establishment" doing anything about anything. The party, at the grassroots level, has been almost completely taken over by the MAGA wing... In many ways, going even further than Trump into just straight up unintended anarchy. There is a recent This American Life about the implosion of the MI GOP state party that is very instructive. It has been almost completely taken over by conspiracy theorists.

I honestly don't know how they dig out of a situation where the bulk of primary voters and volunteers (most state party jobs are not paid) are completely untethered from reality.

I just got an email from the Palm Beach Post that Lee Majors will attend Trump’s super bowl party. They had a picture of him, and holy crap his face looks like it was put together like a ransom note. Airbrushed photography of your plastically altered face can do that to you I guess.

Just in that photo for that other event. She won't be doing anything with Trump, as she is a blue re-tweeting machine, as some of us have seen from following Hood.

It doesn't work great due to Christie, but he's big enough, I doubt it's the first stray he's ever caught.
