On longer trips, I either try to use siri to take voice notes (with various degrees of success) or if one of the kids is riding shotgun make them text me.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

TL;DR:

There are so many more vehicles to see day-to-day with a larger percent of them paying the extra bit of money to get their custom plates and driving conditions dictate that I'm not focusing on crashing as much, yet the drivers are worse, IMO.

So I think there's a couple of things that contribute to this, Mister D.

In my situation, driving out west is a completely different thing than driving back east. The roads have very wide lanes. And many of these roads are 3/4 lanes. There's a great deal of stop and go traffic because, where I live at least, there's a lot of stop lights. (Look at a map of Tucson...and then look at where the highway is.) This creates a less-focused driving situation so your eyes wander more. My theory is all of this extra space to drive actually contributes to more accidents and shittier drivers. (I drive past way more accidents here than anywhere I've been.)

What do I mean by 'less -focused'? Compare that to driving on the east coast where a single lane is two ways and you have to be extremely vigilant around tight turns or even have to get behind parked vehicles to let traffic pass. You aren't looking at license plates. You're always anticipating a crash. Out west, I'm just cruising along and can see traffic well ahead of me.

Also, AZ seems like a cheap place to get personalized plates, comparatively. I noticed that the first time I lived here.

Everyon always thinks they're a better driver and every else on the road is stupid. One MPH below what I'm going? GET OFF THE ROAD, GRANDMA! One MPH above? WHAT IS THIS A FUCKING nascar RACE?

So while we probably experience lower personal insurance rates because we're middle aged men, there's a pretty good chance that of the 40-50 or so that I'd call regulars, half are shitty drivers.

Half of you guys, of course. I make Kyle Busch look like Richard Petty.

And I considered speeding up to get a look at the driver just in case but I had already had Siri take the note and it might have been too obvious to everyone else in the car.
